We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Thate and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had been teaching dance in the area for about 10 years before opening my studio: Precision Dance Conservatory. We have so many dance studios in the area so it’s a great variety for people to be able to choose from and find the right fit for them. I wanted to start a studio with a strong ballet focus but that also provided strong areas of other dance styles of Acrobatics, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Hip Hop, and more. My dance studio also emphasizes the use of curriculums in our training. We are an American Ballet Theatre training school in ballet and Acrobatic Arts curriculum training school for Acrobatics, Al Gilbert curriculum for tap, etc. This way assessments for students are clear for when they can progress to the next level. I also wanted dance to be affordable to the largest number of people.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have grown and changed a lot from when I first started the studio but the one focus of providing a place that offers the highest quality dance training for students in a nurturing environment has always been the same. Our 4 core values of Excellence, Passion, Integrity, and Community make us EPIC. I am always focused on being better than I was yesterday and growing the studio to provide a better experience for students and our families. With that goal in mind I don’t compare us to other studios but rather just focus on what we are doing and how we can improve each and every day. A lesson I have learned along the way is that you cannot please everyone. As long as I am doing my absolute best and learning and improving each and every day that is what is my highest priority rather than pleasing everyone since that is simply not possible. I want the world to know Precision Dance Conservatory for our 4 core values (Excellence, Passion, Integrity, and Community) and as a safe space with high quality training in a family environment.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really am only home or at the studio so this may be tough. I would definitely take them to the beach since that is a huge beautiful part of our area and something I wish I visited more. Walking along Palm Beach is also enjoyable to take in the scenery and just relax and enjoy. I am happy with just my Starbucks and music and sitting and enjoying the day.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people who contributed to where I am today. Firstly, my mom, who has always supported me and helped me in so many different ways in my journey to owning the dance studio I do today. From taking me to my first dance class and supporting my dance journey my whole life to opening the studio and working the front desk when I needed, to now making costumes for our dance productions and so much more. My husband who has taken several different roles in the studio from building the studio floors, building props for our productions, and doing all the installations and repairs to keep the studio running. I would also not be where I am without the amazing staff team at the studio. The team we have built of teachers and staff that care for the students and give the best dance education possible is what makes the studio the success it is.
