We had the good fortune of connecting with Rafael Disla and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rafael, what do you attribute your success to?
Creating relationships with our customers attributes to our success. And it’s not so much of saying hi when they walk in the door or thanking them when they leave, which is extremely important, but getting to know their families, their style of cooking, how they like their meat cut, what sports they like to watch and even hanging outside to have a simple conversation that isn’t to convince them to shop with you. People want connection and we’ve been able to connect with an awesome customer-based and serve their families for generations. Our favorite is having the grandchildren come in that we’ve seen grow up over the years and order based on how their grandparents taught them and see how they continue their family’s restaurant business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sunshine Meat Market has proudly been serving the community of Miami Gardens since 1984. The store was designed with our clients in mind. Unlike larger grocery stores, our clients can hand-pick each of their meat items at our meat counter. Our team of butchers is on-hand to serve, cut and prepare each item to your exact liking, ensuring each order is personalized to your specific needs.
Beginning first as a line cook at a local diner, owner, Rafael, learned firsthand how using fresh products makes all the difference when preparing a meal. Since then, he’s used his experience to ensure Sunshine Meat Market is known for its quality and attention to freshness.
Like any business, it comes with its challenges. At Sunshine, we’ve gone through the 2008 recession and now the pandemic. The biggest learning is – if you can’t control it, don’t stress about it. Each day will come with its challenge so take it one day at a time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without the support of my family, I wouldn’t have the success I have today. Now I get to continue and share this success with my daughters, Vanessa and Karissa, who are taking lead in the meat store. As well as my work family – a team of hardworking individuals that have been by my side for 10+ years.
