We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Barrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Starting in my home country, Spain, my determination early on to learn about the fashion industry and be entrepreneurial led me to dive into this arena and work with Internationally recognized brands like Zara and Carolina Herrera. In doing so I got the opportunity to work with renowned photographers, designers, and organize big production shoots for fashion campaigns that helped my hands on learning experience. Understanding how to promote such brands in a saturated market, connecting with their ideal customers, and generating digital business to sell online was incredibly gratifying and eventually motivated me to start my own fashion focused studio, Gig Miami. In doing so I recently partnered with The Fashion Lab NYC that selected me to educate a database of 5000 stores in the US to help them learn how to promote their fashion business online. I further continue to teach large and growing fashion brands how to create successful campaigns to be able to survive in purely an online market, which is key in today’s world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I came to Miami with intention. That intention is to help connect conscious brands, progressive forward-thinking businesses like mine, with their audience in ways that haven’t been seen before. I want my clients to have the same opportunities in the US market as the big brands, and we can do that through Branding, Design and Marketing techniques. Being part of female entrepreneur communities and design organizations, as AIGA Miami which is a recognized Design Community, helps me feel supported.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a Soho House member, Soho Beach house is one of my favorite spots, you can meet exciting like minded people while enjoying their creative space. The 1 Hotel and XO Coffee are my go-to favorite spots to get organic coffee and find some inspiration. Mandolin Aegean Bistro and KYU restaurant in the Design District are among my favorite two restaurants for Dinner in town, I recommend them for those who travel to Miami and want to experience local High-end cuisine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mentor was the creative and international marketing director at CH Carolina Herrera. We worked together for 3 years. I learned most of what I know from the fashion industry through his leadership. He was an incredibly talented professional that encouraged me to grow in this artistic industry.
