We had the good fortune of connecting with Annie Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Annie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Many would say that starting a venture in your 50s is too risky, but the reality is that I can’t turn back the clock to start it earlier. I have the TODAY and the NOW.
It is considered that after the 50s the “useful” life is ending. I believe just the opposite. In the 50s we can capitalize on our experience and continue to contribute greatly to the economy of our community. You just need to have… COURAGE!
With courage, you will dare to take risks, have the strength to be compassionate, and the wisdom to be humble. Courage is not the absence of fear, but the certainty that there is something that is far more important than fear.
I took courage and took the risk and I have no regrets. Today, hundreds of families have received a “Hivedeco” gift, made with love and generating a smile.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider that what makes my art different is what I look for in the result of each piece. Some seek perfection, others want to be proud of their work, and others crave fame. Each artist has a specific goal each time they finish a commission. Mine is to imagine the client’s face with a big smile. My real goal is to achieve that, “to create smiles through art”. That is my main motivation.
Because this project started during the pandemic, it wasn’t easy at first. People preferred to save their money and use it only for basic necessities.
As time went on, people woke up from a stage of fear and started to feel how important it is to communicate, to love each other, and to share.
My products have been the perfect gifts for that. When you give a Hivedeco piece as a gift, you give an experience, an unforgettable moment. It is a gift that shows the importance of your relationship with the person to whom you give it. They are unique and personalized pieces. By giving a Hivedeco piece as a gift you are telling your loved one… I CARE ABOUT YOU!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to Little Havana and Calle Ocho. A place where Latin culture floats in the air. Miami Beach and the Art Deco Historic District is a must to visit, with its pastel-colored buildings from the 30s and its classic neon signs.
As an artist, I would like them to visit the Perez Art Museum and also a tour of the colorful Wynwood Walls Street Art.
The rest of the recommendations would depend on their preferences, but I would love it if we could try the delicious dishes at Eileen Andrade’s Finka Table and Tap and a special dinner at Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely could not have done anything in my life without God. I owe everything I do to him. I believe in him and that faith is what makes me overcome my fears.
To my children, who are my driving force in life. I want them to feel proud of their mother and to leave them as a legacy the certainty that with love, effort, work and dedication, EVERYTHING is possible.
To the unconditional support of my husband, my sisters, my nieces and nephews, and my two friends Jimmy and Cristina. They have been my biggest cheerleaders and PR agents.
To all of them, THANK YOU!
