We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Legon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaron, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had always dreamed of owning my own restaurant and after our honeymoon in Hawaii, my wife and I fell in love with Hawaiian food. Once we got back home, we started making it for family and friends. We received such positive feedback that we though this would be a perfect opportunity!

Not only is this an opportunity to peruse my dream, but it’s also a way of introducing a new culture to my home town.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is Lokal Moko. We serve traditional Hawaiian cuisine in south Florida! We started in 2018 at the yellow green farmers market and now pop up all over south Florida along with catering events. What I am most excited about is the growth that continues to happen each year!

It was definitely challenging to start. Neither my wife or I came from a restaurant background so it took a lot of time and research to get this business started. But through hard work and the support of all our of family and friends we were able to get to where we are now. One lesson I can definitely say that I have learned is that when it comes to starting a business, no matter how hard you try there are no shortcuts and you have to take your time and do things the right was for success to come.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout would have to be to my entire family. So many people have supported us along the way. First and foremost, my wife who was willing to take this risk with me in starting our own business. None of this would have been possible without her. Also my cousin Mike who dropped it all to help us on this journey from the beginning. My parents who have also stepped in to help any time it’s needed. And everyone else who continues to show us so much support!
