We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Shojaee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is persistence and dedication. As a female working in a male-dominated industry, I have found that I am constantly having to prove myself among my male counterparts, and that nothing makes more of an impact than to prove people wrong through hard work and persistence. I also think that authenticity and having self respect are important factors to my success. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve encountered people in my life that wouldn’t take me seriously because of the way I dress. I’ve always resisted that mindset and have made a point to dress the way I want, otherwise you’re easily pressured into changing yourself into what other people want.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Shoma Group is an award-winning real estate development company specializing in residential and commercial projects. I came on board as part of the sales team in 2013, and immediately noticed we weren’t using any digital marketing, so I shifted my focus at the company and started experimenting and implementing new strategies that would help amplify our brand and projects, such as Google Ads, working with graphic designers, and implementing email campaigns. These efforts quickly gained momentum and are now the primary way we market our company.
I’ve also focused on fine-tuning the Shoma brand. With over 33 years of being one of the most trusted and respected developers in South Florida with a formed reputation as a market maker, I’ve been able to focus my attention on creating beautiful, luxurious developments that not only provide great housing but also serve as amenities for the surrounding communities.
At Shoma, it’s important to diversify the firm’s workforce and increase the number of women employees. I try to utilize my presence on Instagram to show women they can have a seat at the table and change the men-driven perceptions of real estate development and construction.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Shoma Bazaar of course! Recently voted Miami’s Best Food Hall, Shoma Bazaar has something for everyone and it would be the first place on my list to take anyone. I’d start the day off with a healthy breakfast from Juice & Java or Tintto By Tributto which has the most delicious Colombian coffee and pastries. For lunch, we’d enjoy fresh seafood from PokeMIA and then mix it up with the juiciest burgers from BFF Burgers. That evening we’d return for a family-style dinner of Persian street food from Shahs of Kabob and pair it with a signature cocktail from Shoma Bar & Lounge. Then to top it all off, we’d treat ourselves to something sweet from Sweet Manifesto.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents, who have supported absolutely every decision I have made in my life, as well as my husband Masoud who has trusted me, and allowed me to lead while encouraging me to do things my way.
