We had the good fortune of connecting with Charise Spencer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charise, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I honestly believe this creative path chose me. Everything I’m attracted to is a form of art. Making people feel good by doing their hair is art and that’s why I decided to pursue this career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From being able to quit a 9 to 5 job years ago, and having to not go back to one is a proud moment for me. That simply means this gift made room for me. Was it easy, absolutely not, but I have no complaints because it truly showed me how much I wanted this for myself. I’ve learned so much patience with being an entrepreneur. Some days you feel overwhelmed and discouraged but I learned to be still and take a self care day. I want the world to know that I promote confidence, and all it takes is for you to own it. My brand is Rooted In Confidence and that along speaks for itself. You have to be grounded in it and let it show up for you everyday.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were to choose some good spots in the Fort Lauderdale area, I’d pick one of my favorite tiki bars on the beach. You get the beach view, good food, drinks and tvs if you’re into sports. Then you can’t visit without checking out Blue Martini. On a Sunday night it’s more of an reggae vibe but it’s a great time. Now if we’re heading south to the Miami area, we’re hitting Wynwood, there’s Dukunoo which is a Jamaican vibe with the bomb food. The House of Mac is always a go to. Wynwood is just a place to explore, they have everything for every culture. I’m not a big fan of South Beach but I’ll ride through every blue moon. I’m into lounges with good food and music. Low key spots. I don’t need to be around hundreds of people to have a good time. And if we want a more urban vibe, Miami has the strip clubs.. Office, G5 might be the best ones to me, personally lol

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If I had to shoutout anyone it would be my twin Charell. She literally pushes me daily to keep going. So yes big shoutout to her.
