We had the good fortune of connecting with Annique Reynald and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Annique, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I come from a family that was very supportive of my creativity. My Mother and Grandfather were both architects and I spent a lot of time in their office after school surrounded by fabric samples. My mother went to design school in Canada and always encouraged me to be creative. I choose to peruse a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Design. My grandmother was also a very stylish woman, and would take me to all her fancy teas and fashion shows as a child. I also think being born in Trinidad and being surrounded with Carnival and all the creative fields that are needed to make the festival one of the best carnivals in the world helped me believe that design was a career you could be successful at.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been creative and did art or dance or design my whole life. I would take things apart and recreate them in new ways. Paint and hot glue were my best friends. My family always believed that knowledge and higher education where important but It took me a while to figure out what career and degree I wanted to peruse. But an ad in the local newspaper for The Art Institute changed everything. I learned about Industrial Design and I was hooked. Coming to the US for school opened up a lot of opportunities for me to explore my creative side. I met so many people who pushed me to make my little projects I would make for myself into an actual business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love food, so eating is probably going to be top priority. I love all the Knallhart restaurants and bars they have so many different vibes for whatever mood you’re in. The Wilder and Rhythm & Vine are my favorites. I also love the beach but fort lauderdale beach is just too touristy. I love a state park in Davie where there is a place called Whiskey Creek Hideout, it’s the perfect spot for a day relaxing in the sun. You also have to go on at least one Everglades boat tour. I also love The Frost museum it’s my absolute favorite museum in Florida

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Mother. Without her absolute support and encouragement I would not be where I am today. I only wish she lived long enough to see me graduate.
