We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashleigh Lowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashleigh, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been a creative soul. Just like everyone their skills and desires evolve over time. Where I started with my photography and where I am now is crazy when I step back and look at it. I am not meant for 9-5 life. I am not meant for normal life. I create art and I try my best to radiate positivity.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started photographing flowers and landscapes. I started slow without no human subjects. Fast forward to 2017 I quit a job because of the toxic environment as well as a creepy boss. Once I quit that job I decided to try to build my own brand. So I did. I created Ashleigh Lowe Photography and started doing lifestyle work. The more I got into lifestyle work I didn’t like it as much anymore. I then started to get into conceptual art. I was proud of the concepts I was bringing to life through my art. Since then my style has shifted. I do less conceptual art. I don’t have a word to describe my art really. I love color and texture, I love to mix fashion/art nude with conceptual as well. I am drawn to strange and weird.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my husband first visited the Florida Keys (where I am from) I wanted to show him the few spots that the locals love. I had to take him to Num Thai in Key Largo. The doughnuts are SO GOOD. We went to a little beach that the locals hang out at a lot called Anne’s Beach! There is a nice boardwalk with different areas you are able to get down into the beach area. We did also go parasailing in Key West!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am self taught. Everything that I have learned and all of my progress is because I practice so much. I do owe support to the few friends and family I hold near and dear. I would be lying if I said giving up hasn’t crossed my mind before, but I’m thankful for those who have pushed me to continue making art and doing something that I not only love but I am good at.
