We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. James Spencer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. James, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Wow! I Love this Question! I read a lot… I’m a thinker, so I’ve always gravitated to a less structured lifestyle that goes against the status quo. That drive has allowed me a deep passion for helping and educating people. Education on the basics is something we don’t focus on because it isn’t sexy, but we all need more of the basics… sleep more, drink more water, and eat quality nutrients. This was my intent when working with individuals. I always felt patients who I worked with should be treated a certain way and that way was not being fulfilled through the Insurance Model, so with the courage of my Wife, I decided to open a Sports Chiropractic and Performance Business, The Bearded Kettlebell. This Cash Based Model allowed me to focus more on the quality of care vs the quantity of patients. It allowed me to create an “Experience” for my Patients. I get to treat my patients and athletes the way I feel they should be treated. This allows me to spend more time with them so they don’t feel rushed through their appointment I wanted to have a Family relationship with my patients… I don’t want them to feel like another number. Moreover, running this quality over quantity model freed up time for me to spend with my family. Family is something I really Value. This has allowed me to design the schedule I want while being able to fulfill quality Family time. My goal of the business was to be able to help people, spend quality time with my family, make a living, and most importantly give back to the community. A portion of my overall earnings is given back to Charity at the end of the year. Leaving this world with a Positive Impact is my entire Goal of Life, and exactly what I want to show my son. The coolest thing I get to to do everyday is spend time with my family and encourage my son to be a strong positive person. This is my Why… this was my Thought Process!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have to give credit to a book called Hacking your Education written by Dale Stephens. This book has taught me to observe, think critically, and ask the right questions. As Dale Stephens would say… the real requirements are much simpler: curiosity, confidence, and grit. It has taught me to create opportunities versus waiting for someone to knock on my door. This is the book I gift most often to Family, Friends, and Colleagues.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A Day in the Life: My Best Friends and I would enjoy an early morning Palm Beach sunrise paddleboard sesh… It’s so enjoyable to be out on the calm waters and back in nature. Next spot would be to hit up Juno Beach Cafe for some Breakfast or Pumphouse Coffee Roasters for a cup of joe. After that we would go record a video podcast at my Podcast Studio, Media Zone, on Singer Island. Following that we would go to Square Grouper for a view of the Jupiter Lighthouse and some fresh mahi for lunch. After that it would be time for a small siesta… then a workout at my Facility, the Bearded Kettlebell, in Wellington, or go play a round of golf at PGA National, home of the Honda Classic, or hit up some wakeboarding at the Shark Wake Park in West Palm Beach. You know after that would be Happy Hour, Cadillac Margaritas, and a Sunset Dinner, Ceviche, at Sailfish Marina on Singer Island.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hands down… my Momma is the one who instilled the frame work of being punctual and hard working! My Wife is the one who has given me the courage and blessing to chase my Dreams!
