We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Safran-Wands and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I took over an exsiting blowdry bar , and converted it into a full service salon.
For me finding my own brand and touch was the best success .
I rebranded my salon and took risks I cultivated a whole new team and I was scared how the clients before LAHH would react . To my surprise we did not loose many clients at all and in fact they loved the changes .
Lahh salon is a brand that means life’s about healthy hair from the products we use the education my artist have , you always leave our salon with healthier hair than when you walked in .
We do it all color extensions cuts makeup blowdrys keratins and treatments we hope to meet you soon.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I always dreamt of owning my own salon . But first I went to college and tried our being a fashion buyer in NYC. A few fashion weeks later I found myself still starting at the hair and makeup behind the stage not the clothes .
It was when I met Oribe the most iconic hair dresser to exist that I realized I must go to hair school I must do this and really do this .
I left my job attended aveda institute in Soho NYC and finished the program in 11 months. From there I assisted at John Barrett NYC and Oscar blandi learning cuts and color . My passion for this industry continued to grow and I decided I wanted to learn the business side as well. 7 Interviews later I landed a job at Oribe known as luxury brand partners selling and education salons on the Oribe brand .
This is where my finally destantation happened that a friend and coworker gave me the opportunity to buy their exsiting blowdry bar . At the age of 25 I became a business owner . Excited scared nervous my dream came true .
The hardest part was learning management I never ran a team in my life . Today this still is the hardest part but the most rewarding .
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to faena for the beach as a rose member there it’s my favorite place to enjoy .
We would go to Los fuegos for dinner and then the living room the perfect Miami day and night .
And of course we would get ready at LAHH salon with perfect hair and makeup for the night .
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my parents for allowing me to take my leap in faith to leave my 9-5 at 25 years old and take the biggest risk of my life to become a small business owner.
My husband who deals with my sleepless nights and workalholic mind set.
My team for their loyalty hard work and support with out them the salon would not exist they are the heart beat of my business .
