We had the good fortune of connecting with Harmony Skillman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Harmony, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
In my business, you wear many hats. Time management, time blocking, working smarter not harder is key. I think for me, having routines and knowing myself – getting up early I love and works for me. I also walk an hour everyday (no matter the weather!) and this is so key for my mental health. Creating a good work flow and process also helps. That of course is ever evolving.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I don’t think anything worth doing is easy. Especially working in travel over the last five years! Our business came to screetching halt in March 2020, and all of the work I had done for 6-9 months prior to the pandemic was all for nothing. Since I am in a commission based business, To be blunt, I basically spent a year working for free. Having to cancel all the trips I spent probably six months planning, was very painful. BUT one good thing to come out of that time was the downtime I had to train, visit resorts (I traveled a ton in 2020 and 2021 with the restart). Now travel is back with a vengence and people are realizing life is short and now is the time to plan those bucket list trips and many want to make up for lost time.

I am most proud of my ability to run a business, service my clients, and give them the best travel experience. I love traveling, I love sharing insider tips and I love helping people make those ever lasting memories.

In 2016 I had some awful setbacks in my first career (teaching) and having to leave that profession behind, I remember crying to my husband saying “I know there is something big out there for me, but I don’t know what it is” HOLY COW I did ultimately find my way to that something and I could not be happier, more successful… of course the last seven years have been full of hard work, growing and learning. I started my blog in the Fall of 2016, as a hobby/way to share my travels with others. In 2018 I became an agent and in 2019 really got serious about putting in place a business plan to really focus on using my blog to put out great content for guests, who are looking for my services, to find me. This has been very successful and has allowed me to work with great clients from all over the country.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow, so many because my business is based on referrals, learning from others. In some ways I am a total one-person business but yet I rely on my brand partners, host agency, other agent friends to learn from. Many of my friends and happy clients have referred my services to their friend and family, the best compliment I can receive. And of course running your own successful, home based business does put a burden on my husband and family. They are very supportive of my long hours, constant travels and working in a client service business, they know my traveling guests come first – taking calls on Christmas Eve helping stranded travelers, things like that.
