We had the good fortune of connecting with July Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi July, how do you think about risk?
I look at risks as a necessity in life. You have to take risks in order to grow as a person. If you really think about it, every decision is a risk. If you choose to play it safe, you’re risking fulfillment. If you choose to live on the edge, you’re risking stability. If you choose comfort, you risk growth. It’s all a risk.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a recording artist from Spanish Town, Jamaica. I think my Island flair makes my sound very distinct. I’m not trying to stay in any one box, so I play around with my sound a lot, but I try not to go too far away from my center point which will forever be reggae/dancehall.

My sound is just a hodgepodge of all my music influences.

My career is still pretty young, so I’m super grateful for how far I’ve come. I’ve met some incredible people who’ve given me game or opportunities that definitely helped along the way. Ofcourse the journey comes with difficulties, but all in all, there’s been far more good days than bad. I can’t complain. I think keeping an attitude of gratitude has shifted my perspective quite a bit. If I get frustrated or overwhelmed, I look at what my career looked like 2 years ago and get reinvested into the hustle of the “come up”.

I want the world to know how much of myself I have invested into my music. How much I value the process, and how proud I am of my work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Girl, we’re eating at Eclipse de Luna. Bussin! On Tuesday we’re going to Bamba Tuesdays. We can hit up the High Museum and swing by Apt. 4 B for their turkey wings. Ofcourse, we HAVE TO go to Rum Punch Brunch on Sunday. It’s a must.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dos. It’s been a really hectic year and I believe it would have been a whole lot messier had she not been in my corner. Shout outs to Dos!
