Meet MARINA VOGEL | Hairstylist & Salon Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with MARINA VOGEL and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MARINA, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After I graduated highschool with the age of 15 and signed up for a 3 year apprenticeship program in germany as a hairstylist, I fell in love with my job & always wanted to build my own salon & brand. Other kids in my grade made fun of me “just becoming a hairdresser”, but now they look at me & see what I have accomplished.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a hairstylist from germany & I’ve been working in the beautyindustry since over 23 years. I owned a salon in germany for more than 8 years before moving to the states. I’ve been travelling to the US since I was 20 years old and its been always my dream moving to Florida and opening my own Salon here!
So I followed my dreams, saved up money, sold my salon in germany and 2 years later I moved to sunny florida with my 2 dogs in late 2013.
I wanted to build a brad that people recognize & when they walk into my salon, I want them to feel a vibe… It’s not just a regular hair salon, it’s myself & my team, positive energy & leaving feeling enhanced their beauty & inspired.
It wasn’t easy to come where i’m now. I came from far & had to work hard & long hours for the first 8 years in the States. Things werent always easy. I had problems with contractors & landlords who were thinking i’m a stupid litte german girl with an accent where they can take advantage off. But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger was my mantra.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely Las Olas, the Beach and Flaglervilllage. I love to dine out, do happy hours, sunday funday brunch and coffee shops & juice bars. I know pretty much almost all places in Fort Lauderdale & around. All the hidden gems and if there is a new spot i’m one of the first ones trying it out.
Besides eating & drinking I love working out, I love to go on a beachrun or a dogwalk at the Holiday Park.
Once a month at least you find me on a boat. I’m a member of a boatclub & love being on the water with a bunch of my girlfriends. Captain MaVo likes to take out the boating the ocean & cruise either to haulover sandbar or lake boca.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my employees, It’s a great feeling having a team of driven & dedicated stylists that love working at MaVo. Big part & thanks go to my mom in Germany, she always cheers me up…
