We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Falla and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam, is there something you believe many others might not?
I see a lot of advice out there on either ‘Saying YES to everything’ and also ‘Making sure you have balance’. I don’t agree with saying Yes to everything – time is the only commodity we can never buy more of and so there is always an opportunity cost in everything you do. I have found that being narrowing focused on a few important areas is how you generate exceptional results. This likely means you do not have balance in your approach or life. I think balance is over-rated if you want to build or achieve something exceptional. High performance requires narrow focus and intensity, as long as this is applied to a subject matter you love or have real curiosity for I don’t think it leads to burnout. Burnout comes from too much effort trying to do everything and therefore a lot of time on things you are not interested in. Find the area you love – and then say no a lot, and be unbalanced in your pursuit of it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a co-founder of Leap Hockey – a field hockey community where we help players unlock their talent & passion for the game. We have members all over the globe training together online, an ever growing follower base on social media tuning in for tips & instruction and around 25 events all of the USA this summer where our members comes to train in-person.

We’re really excited about the growth of our in-person events and we’ll be hosting our first 2 day Academy in Miami next month, May 3-4.

We’ve been amazed at the company growth in the past 3 years, we have stayed very focused creating a fun environment for young players to learning from world-class coaches. Lots of other opportunities have appeared, to branch out in new ways so I think staying focused on our current path has been a big challenge. We try to live the values we coach – trying to get a little bit better, every event and staying consistent. Not always the most intriguing path but the discipline to stay focused has been the key to our growth so far and we want to both share this lesson and continue to live by it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely a stroll along South Beach’s boardwalk. The sunrise at South Pointe Park gives you and amazing ocean view with the city backdrop. Then grab breakfast at La Sandwicherie – great sandwiches.

A walk through Domino Park & Calle Ocho, is a lot of fun with street musicians, local cigar shops, and taste of the Cuban culture in the city. For lunch, maybe an authentic Cuban meal at Versailles—an institution in the city.

Dinner might be back in South Beach or in Brickell at a place like The Bazaar by José Andrés, finish off with a cocktail at a nice rooftop venue overlooking the Miami skyline.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout-out Ross Gilham-Jones who is my business partner in Leap Hockey. Without his energy, determination and expertise our journey would have taken a much different path. We teamed up 3 years ago and building Leap Hockey had been an amazing ride. We compliment each other well and most importantly trust each other’s intentions for our partnership.
