We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Romasko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
From a young age, I was intrigued by the idea of starting a business, a sentiment shared by many Americans. However, the inception of Gordo Web Design was rooted more in practicality than mere aspiration. After college, I found myself in various roles that provided a panoramic view of potential career paths. Working for large entities, such as school districts and major telecoms, I observed how these organizations implemented specific workflows and tools. This structure ensured that they didn’t have to reinvent the wheel with each new task or business opportunity. Such insights revealed the scalability of businesses and underlined the adage that “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

At the same time, I embarked on my first entrepreneurial endeavor by offering in-house IT support for local small businesses. This side gig led to a close collaboration with a landscaping client. Their transparency allowed me a front-row seat to the highs and lows, challenges and triumphs, of running a small business. This first-hand exposure demystified many aspects of entrepreneurship for me.

Not long after my experiences with local businesses, my close high school friend, Dayne Di Guglielmo, presented an intriguing proposition. He had just ventured into web design on a professional level and identified a notable market gap in Fort Lauderdale: there was a shortage of proficient, yet personable, website designers serving the numerous small businesses in the area. The offer piqued my interest, especially since, as teenagers, we enjoyed creating online games and websites together. It felt like a natural progression from our youthful experiments. I subsequently made the move to Fort Lauderdale. A decade has elapsed since that pivotal decision, and looking back, I’m filled with a profound sense of accomplishment and zero regrets.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our aim has always been simple: make businesses shine online. When a client comes to us with an idea or need, we handle the rest. We provide a full-service solution. We know running a business is tough, so our goal is to make the website and internet marketing parts easy and stress-free.

In the beginning, things weren’t easy. We found our first few clients through friends, family, and plain old word of mouth. We were all in on this business, with no backup plans. I still remember walking up and down Oakland Park Boulevard in the heat, wearing shirts embroidered with our company logo, knocking on doors and asking if they needed a website. Some of those businesses said yes, and they’re still with us today. Those early days taught us a big lesson: don’t give up, and find your spot in the market.

Over time, we figured out our strengths. We worked with many industries, and learned that every business has its own challenges. What’s most important is understanding what each business owner needs. Some want more guidance, while others want us to take the lead. We’ve got the flexibility to do both.

At the end of the day, our job is about more than just making websites. It’s about understanding and helping businesses. Every time we launch a site and see a happy client, we’re reminded why we started this in the first place. To take a small or new business and put them on par with industry leaders is extremely rewarding.

So, what do we want people to know about Gordo Web Design? It’s simple. We care deeply and take immense pride in our work. Your reputation hinges on the quality of your last project, so we ensure every project hits the mark, avoiding shortcuts. We’re dedicated to assisting you, ensuring every business, big or small, presents its best self online.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
South Florida truly is a gem, and the beach would naturally be my first recommendation. While I cherish memories of childhood summers at the Jersey Shore, the beaches there simply don’t compare to what we have here. Fort Lauderdale Beach is an absolute must-visit, but I’d suggest skipping it during spring break if you’re seeking some tranquility.

For dining with a view, Aruba Beach Cafe in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is my top pick. This place holds a special spot in my heart. In our early business days, after closing a deal, Dayne and I would often celebrate with fresh fish and chips on their outdoor patio. Great food with a fantastic backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean – it’s a definite recommendation.

For fishing enthusiasts, Fort Lauderdale is a treasure. Whether you prefer chartering a boat for some deep-sea action or if you have your own vessel, there are many options. And for bass fishing enthusiasts, there are numerous local spots. For spontaneous exploration, use your maps app to find bodies of water and keep an eye out for those without “No Fishing” signs.

To make sure you have a true South Florida experience, you should visit Everglades Holiday Park. It’s an opportunity to get up close with alligators and marvel at God’s untouched and beautiful creation.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, my twin brother, Ed, has consistently been a beacon of support. From childhood to adulthood, we’ve shared innumerable moments, and his unwavering belief in my dreams has continually inspired and grounded me. Similarly, my parents and Aunt Ellen have stood as pillars of strength. Their collective wisdom, patience, and enduring faith in my abilities have consistently propelled me forward, even amidst challenges.

Dayne, my business partner, deserves special mention. From our teenage adventures in web design and gaming to establishing a flourishing business in Fort Lauderdale, his perseverance, dedication, and tireless effort have been instrumental. The bond extends beyond just business; his family has embraced me with warmth and love for over two decades. Their welcoming nature and genuine care have made their home feel like my own.

One name from my past is Walt Chandler, our high school business teacher. Not only did he impart invaluable life lessons within the classroom, but he also became a mentor and guiding force when I later joined the same school as a young professional. His no-nonsense approach and honesty have been pivotal in shaping my entrepreneurial journey.

Lastly, and most importantly, I want to express my profound gratitude to Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. Throughout my life, His protection has been evident, even during times when I regrettably overlooked and rejected His presence. A miraculous intervention almost four years ago profoundly changed my life, and for that, I am eternally grateful. He didn’t just save me in a spiritual and eternal sense; He manifested His love in a moment when all seemed lost and showed me a way when it appeared there was none. Out of this transformative experience, I’ve forged cherished friendships and bonds with Joseph, Daniel, Michael, and many others. To Him, I owe not only my salvation but also attribute all the glory for any successes and triumphs in both my business and personal life.
