We had the good fortune of connecting with Adawna Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adawna, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
That’s a great question and the answer is easy. It was when I decided to go back to school to get my Master’s Degree. I had a conversation with an ex-supervisor and I told her I was bored with what I was doing. She told me that I had outgrown my degree and I needed to get my Master’s. Up until then, I didn’t think about going back to school. I am so glad that I did.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my practice is After Happily Ever After, LLC. I started it in June 2014. The practice is 100% online, Black American, and female-owned. What sets it apart from others is that most of my clients are people of color. I give my clients the space to discuss issues that only people of color would understand. From social justice issues to microaggressions without judgment. At this moment I am most proud of my new coaching program the ALIGN Method and my new journal, My (Not Everyday)Journal. I got here by being an independent contractor for different social service agencies. I became paneled with insurance companies and from there, things began to take off. The biggest challenge was getting my and the company’s names out there. Nothing worth having is ever easy and that is true for starting my business. I overcame the challenges with hard work, a strong support system, and prayer. I want people to know that my story is one of perseverance. My brand is like me, growing and changing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Great question! If my best friend visited I would take her places that would go along with the ALIGN Method. The first place I would take her would be to Hollywood Beach as the A- Acknowledge, There we would Acknowledge the beauty and the peace that the beach brings us. Next, we would go to Painting With A Twist as the L which stands for learn. She’s not a painter but there she can learn and have fun at the same time. We would focus on the I which stands for Improve in Las Olas. There we would Improve our friendship by simply having some girl talk. The G stands for Growth and for that, I would also take her to Dania Pointe. There we would go shopping and grow the souvenirs and her wardrobe. Lastly, we would eat at Tommy Bahamas and Nourish ourselves. N is the last letter in ALIGN,

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my late husband Twan. He believed in the vision before there was a business. My children, inspire and love me. My parents whose shoulders I stand on and my professors at Nova Southeastern University.
