We had the good fortune of connecting with Adela Fryhover and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adela, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Absolutely! My business is focused on helping the community! The practice of Yoga allows us to feel centered and connected. We get caught up with the hustle and bustle of every day life that we begin to feel like we’re living on autopilot or like a robot, and that makes us feel disconnected and unmotivated. When we practice yoga on a consistant basis, we as a community have the potential to form a deep and loving connection not only with ourselves, but with others around us and anyone else that we meet on our spiritual journey. This beautiful and ancient practice can be such a positive force in our personal lives and can be expanded to make a positive impact on our communities.
Yoga has the power to bring out the very best version of oneself.
My business as a Yoga Instructor is to empower my students to live with awareness, tap from within so that we can live our fullest potential and to continue to grow and learn. As a Yoga Teacher I find it rewarding when students begin to feel better about themselves, they report positive transformation and feel motivated. It all starts by showing up to class.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The form of Yoga that I teach is Transformational Hatha Yoga and I studied it in India under the direct guidance and discipleship of Swami Vidyananda, Founder and President of SriMa International School of Yoga. This type of Yoga is for everyBODY! My classes are held at various studios and I also offer private sessions for people who have specific needs and require individualized attention. My classes offer a holistic approach which promotes wellness, strength, flexibility, breath work, meditation, preventative health and builds nervous system resilience. This well rounded holistic approach has positive results if done on a continual basis.
A challenge that keeps me on my toes is that I struggle with chronic pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis. That same challenge is what motivates me to practice Yoga. I refuse to accept limitations and I credit lifestyle changes along with Hatha Yoga, Meditation, Yoga Nidra with finding balance, peace and living with awareness.
I no longer feel limited. To anyBODY who suffers from chronic pain, back pain, emotional blockage, trauma or wanting to unearth their true selves, deepen their yoga practice, I hope you open your heart and mind to a new experience of body and mind. It is also important to understand that holistic healing starts from within each of us.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of remaining grounded even in times of conflict or trauma. On March 20, 2021, my world flipped when my husband of just 44 passed away unexpectedly. Yoga helped me to remain grounded and to focus on my breath, my health, to be present for my beautiful 9 year old daughter. This ancient practice along with the love and support I received from the Yoga community, family and friends is what saved me. I think I would be lost without Yoga feeling disconnected and traumatized for life! Yoga unites people to come together because a community that breathes together- stays together!
The techniques that I have learned over the years helped me to find a way to process my loss and to work on healing, it created a sacred space for me to just be and to navigate a new way of life. There simply aren’t enough words to express the benefits of Yoga. Yoga it is a unique and different experience for everyone. For me it has become a great source for healing and accepting where I am in life. Everyone is on a different journey and every story is different.
My Yoga practice continues to change and evolve and I’ve learned many lessons along the way, but the biggest one was how crucial it is to remain focused, grounded and connected during the most difficult time of my life. I look forward to spreading awareness of how Yoga can be a life saver!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friends come to visit, starting our day with a nice yoga stretchy class is a must! Breakfast somewhere on Giralda plaza is nice because there are many new restaurants to check out.
CRAFT is my favorite place for brunch because their coffees are very good and my favorite breakfast dish is the
post-apocalyptic brunch plate because it has a little bit of everything. I also enjoy eating alfresco.
My friends love to go to the beach when they come to visit because we love to swim and sunbathe. South Point is our favorite beach because it has a little park, a picnic area, a board walk, view is amazing and the beach is family oriented. Sometimes vendors come and sell fruity drinks.
Paddle-boarding is fun at Virginia Key, I own my own paddle-board, but if you don’t -you can rent one there along with safety jacket and paddle the lagoon that leads into the ocean. On a good day, you can spot turtles and manatees. Its a very cool experience. You can paddle down to the beach area and you can have a picnic out there as well.
Fairchild Tropical Gardens offers beautiful vegetation and we can soak up nature as we chat along the way.
Viscaya Gardens is also a beautiful place to explore.
My friends always like to see the historical site around Coral Gables, like the Prado Entrance, we love to walk around and get our 10K daily steps out of the way. Other historical sites are the Biltmore Hotel, the Congregational church across the Biltmore, the Venetian pool and they are mesmerized with the surrounding banyan trees and orchids all around the city. Vegetation is a hit!
Our favorite SUSHI restaurant is Matsuri because they offer different bento boxes with a little bit of everything at an unbeatable price. The freshness of the food and sushi is always impressive. The service is quick and food is authentic. The chef has been there for over 15 years.
Hillstones on Miracle is my favorite restaurant for dinner. Everything on the menu is tasty and delectable. The kale salad and all the sushi plates are a hit. My friends are always down for a nice martini.
Bachour is our favorite place for coffee and pastries, the guava and cream cheese pastry is our favorite.
Aromas de Peru is our favorite place for authentic Peruvian food.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Yoga journey would not be complete without mentioning my amazing and wonderful Teachers in India, Vandana Wadera Swami Vidyananda, at SriMa International School of Yoga and Dr. OM, New Delhi, India. Vandana, Swamiji and Dr. Om became positive mentors by guiding me in so many ways. Together they taught me the philosophy, anatomy, breathe work, asanas, Ayurveda, holistic diet and history of Yoga. I used to think Yoga was just a physical form of working out. However, when I arrived to India from Miami I was in for a special treat and didn’t even know it at the time.
Therefore, I can’t say that I began to practice yoga to reach enlightenment. However, the same flows felt different. After learning and studying the deeper emotional and spiritual ties of yoga, my eyes opened to something deeper. My teachers taught me that Yoga is the only form of movement that connects body, mind, breath and spirit allowing us to feel whole and complete. I spent three years in India, with these wonderful teachers and they taught me about the energetic centers in the body which form a roadmap to the subtle body. I began to understand why many of us feel so disconnected. My teachers explained that we have two bodies; a physical and subtle energetic body, we tend to live only in the physical body. The knowledge my teachers shared allowed me to open my heart and mind to become the Yoga teacher that I am today and be of service to others. Sharing this knowledge with others is my passion. My clients are ultimately who benefit from the lessons I’ve learned and shared with them.
I will forever be grateful to my Yoga Masters in beautiful and amazing INDIA! Thanks to them I am now able to share – with all my CLIENTS!
