We had the good fortune of connecting with Adolfo Jimenez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adolfo, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I am an early riser. I didn’t choose this. It’s just how I am. Never much of a sleeper. Even as a baby, as my mother still loves to remind me. I take advantage of being up earlier than I need to be by reading, writing, and devoting the time to preparing for the day ahead.
Another habit I have is books. It’s almost an addiction. I read and I listen to audiobooks. I get through at least one book per week, sometimes more. I also read magazines and news, though I limit my news intake as it tends to be very negative.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My latest venture, Bubba’s Hangover Diner, is a food truck serving up Classic Diner Comfort with Latin / Caribbean flare! My wife Abby and I started it because we love diners and they seem to be getting harder and harder to find.
The decision to invest in a new business is never an easy one, but after years of running our other businesses, we figured it was time to go in a new, fun direction.
It was not easy. Particularly dealing with government entities for licensing, etc. but it was worth it because our vision is becoming a reality. I’ve been there before so it wasn’t a surprise, but that doesn’t mean it was a pleasant experience. It is, at best, a necessary evil.
We want Bubba’s to elevate the food truck space. Too often, food truck operators are all about taking the order and cranking it out. We want to bring old-school customer service to the industry. We want to do more than feed our guests, we want to create a memorable experience.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, we head to South Beach for breakfast at The Big Pink and then drive north on A1A, stopping at Government Cut. Lunch in Downtown Hollywood and the night ends at the Hard Rock in Hollywood. I’m not a gambler, but it’s one of those places you have to take your out-of-town friends to see.
You have to schedule a beach day and we have some amazing parks where I live in Broward so there will be some of that.
If we want to get deep into the tourist thing, there are plenty of things to do in the Everglades, like watch alligator wrestling. Maybe a Marlins game or the Heat (in the finals again, baby!)
The thing about South Florida is that there is so much to do, it’s hard to pick just a couple of things.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom is my hero. She is the most tenacious and wise person I have ever known. She is funny and tough and caring and still tells me when I’m acting like a knucklehead.
