Meet Adriana Hunsberger

We had the good fortune of connecting with Adriana Hunsberger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adriana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve never had a desire to work for someone else. Instead, I’ve always been driven to find a way to have a flexible schedule and pursue something that I truly felt passionate about. I’m also a pretty determined individual. I knew that if I built something for myself, I would do anything to ensure its success.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve been a full-time makeup artist since 2015, specializing in bridal makeup. I absolutely adore seeing brides react with excitement and the instant confidence when they see their makeup, It never fails to amaze me!
I am incredibly proud to have established a network of amazing clients and connections in the industry. My business primarily operates through referrals which has allowed me to avoid the expense of advertising which was not the case early on.
Getting my name out there was undoubtedly one of the most challenging tasks early on in my career. I had to determine where to invest my time ,those who genuinely had my best interests in mind, and what projects would actually advance me closer to where I saw my business headed.
Running my business has taught me a lot about myself. I’ve learned how to be a leader and a follower when needed. It’s not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about being consistent in your actions. Your actions say a lot about you and how you operate your business so others will pick up on that.
My advice: is that mediocrity is not memorable. Instead, constantly evolve, set yourself up for success, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. You don’t need to be the best; just be your best.
What sets me apart: is my personality and experience. There are many talented people in my industry, but none are me. They won’t provide the same experience, have the same one-on-one interactions, or care for my clients the way I would. My personal experiences and expertise is difficult to replicate perfectly by anyone.
I believe this mindset can be applied to any business or field you may be in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Jacksonville, in my opinion, is underrated. There are so many great spots to visit. If you’re interested in art, head to M.O.C.A. If you’re a sports fan, catch a Jags game, an Iceman Game, or enjoy a Jumbo Shrimp game. For foodies, Hawkers is a must-visit. Order a variety of small plates. If you’re looking for a date night, check out one of the rooftop bars like River or Post. If you’re in the mood for cocktails with a speakeasy vibe, check out the Volstead or Grape and Grain Exchange.
You can’t get bored in Jacksonville.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful support system. My husband, Craig, supported me when I quit my job at a bank and lost my benefits and stable income. He believed in me and it drove me to work hard to ensure that I wouldn’t let him down. This continues to motivate me to this day, and I can never express my gratitude enough to him. Additionally, those in the industry who helped me grow and shared their knowledge and tips to further my talent and skills are truly invaluable.
