We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrienne Turton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrienne, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have been into fitness for quite some time, since Fall of 2007 to be exact. From then to now, I have been constantly growing my knowledge on different training styles so I can help as much people as possible. I have taken courses for different certifications as well. Eventually I thought to myself “I don’t want to learn all these things and not put it to good use.” Again, I want to help as much people as possible. I know first hand how it feels to not be comfortable in your own body. I want to help people overcome that, just like I did. My main goal throughout this process is to do everything on my terms, when I feel it’s right and not follow other people. There was a lot of doubt and a lot of conversations with friends to finally muster up the confidence to just “do the damn thing”.
I decided to change what I posted on instagram (@adrienne_ariel). I began to post more informative posts such as exercise videos with detailed captions. I then decided to find a manufacturer to make products for me (long and short resistance bands and core sliders). The items can be purchased on my site www.naturalprogressionfitness.com. Shortly after putting in my order, I decided to make my website that I just mentioned. Initially, I started doing the website on my own, then I got frustrated and got help from an acquaintance. I am a perfectionist. When it comes to something that has my name tied to it, I knit pick at the smallest details. Even now that the website is completed, I still think things can be changed, but it is good for now. I wanted the site to be a 1 stop shop where potential clients can purchase products, purchase programs, and purchase training services. Throughout this entire process thus far and for future aspirations I keep telling myself “Bet on yourself. You know you can do this.” The ultimate goal is to be able to quit my “9-5” and train clients full time. I WILL get there.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For my professional career, I am a Revenue Examiner (Auditor). Being that I constantly review business related information, I am able to learn from businesses whether it be the “what to do’s” or the “what not to do’s”. I believe every lesson you learn is transferable to other aspects of your life. In terms of overcoming challenges, I literally just need to get out of my head. I may sound a bit crazy, but I do in fact have internal conversations with myself to get over my absurd thoughts. I have learned that most things I think will happen, often do not. I have learned that I need to continue putting myself out there, despite having social anxiety.
I want the world to know that I am inclusive to all- Man, woman, teens, children, any issues etc. As long as your needs are within my per-view , I am here to help. If you need help with nutrition, losing weight, gaining weight, gaining strength etc, I am here to help.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I currently live in CT. I love wineries, breweries, hiking, eating and a party here & there for a little razzle dazzle lol. Here’s a list of places off the top of my head:
1) Gouveia Vinyards in Wallingford, CT- I absolutely love the views and the wine. You can bring your own food to snack on,
2) Taco Daddy in Stamford, CT- I am a sucker for their tacos and their drinks are *chef’s kiss*. They have yet to disappoint me,
3) Sign of the Whale in Stamford, CT- I haven’t gone there for food, but their rooftop bar is super cute for a nice chill vibe.
4) Taylor Brooke Brewery in Woodstock, CT- This is a brewery & winery in one. You can’t go wrong.
5) Kinsmen Brewery in Milldale, CT- Their pizza and turkey sandwich is amazing. Like, I have CRAVED their turkey sandwich before, It’s ridiculous.
6) Giuffrida Park or Hurbbard Park Hiking Trail in Meriden, CT
7) Parkville Market in Hartford, CT- a place that has tons of different food options
8) The Russell in Hartford, CT- Caribbean cuisine and music
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
