We had the good fortune of connecting with Alanee Ngala and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alanee, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I love taking risk. I’m a firm believer of “you miss every shot you don’t attempt to take”. I don’t like being stagnant and that’s with anything in life! I had to take many risks in my life and career. From investing in my business initially, to free styling new sets in hopes of more clients/sales, to putting out a new product. Most of my risks are pretty calculated so it helps when I get anxious or fearful. Taking risks have benefitted me in ways I couldn’t even imagine. Plus, it helps you understand what/whatnot to do in anything, it builds character.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the CEO of NKMYNX, it is a luxury lash brand that specializes in wispy lash sets for both male and females! A special thing about NKMYNX is that it varies in its sets. Some sets are as light as a feather (Classic/Hybrid) and other sets are as dark and bold! I’m most excited about constantly evolving & better my brand. It certainly wasn’t easy starting out, I had long days of practicing on models for free, long days of crying, giving up & etc! But staying consistent & seeing the end goal is what kept me going. A lesson I’ve learned is to stay inspired. Whether locally or globally, stay inspired by other lash artists who were once in my spot and see how much they’ve grown. It helps believe in your own brand and work harder towards your goals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to go out so this is easy. If the trip is a week long I’d take them to the four seasons for a spa day. We’d eat out at restaurants like Nobu, RPM, Shoto, Mastros and etc. I’d show them city center and we’ll do some fun shopping at the stores. Visit Victory lounge for the bestttt ambience and hookah around. The Wharf for water activities such as boat rides, water pedaling, and enjoying the view while eating oysters. If we want to entertain the night life I’d take them to St.Yves or Rosebar!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If I’m being honest, every client that has booked with me deserves credit. They give me my flowers of course, but experiencing new people daily and getting feedback on how they feel (towards the lash style) and how they feel with my brand is so important to me. My mother is the biggest factor yet. She’s always in the background pushing me to reach newer heights and visions with my brand. I don’t know where I’d be without her at all! At times I forget to celebrate the small wins; and she always reminds me to do just that.
