We had the good fortune of connecting with Alanna Ruiz-Unger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alanna, what do you attribute your success to?
Resilience: no matter what happens you’re willing to get back up. You are always willing to remain a student. Appreciating the mistakes and believing that without them, my brand wouldn’t be where it is today. Also, the ability to distinguish between your higher self talking and your ego talking. Not allowing your ego to control your decisions.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what sets me apart is that I am always myself. I don’t try to be like anyone else. I don’t let others influence my choices or decisions. My brand is me. I believe in remaining a student, constantly learning new skills, techniques, and ways to improve. And lastly, I don’t think I am better than anyone else. I’m most proud about the leader that I have become and I am most excited about the person I am becoming, my future self.
I got to where I am today with a lot of trial and error, mind building, studying successful entrepreneurs and thought leaders. I did a lot of self reflecting and a lot of work building my mind, habits, thought processes. I worked hard, took risks, and always reinvested into my business. Those things with consistency have definitely been the building blocks of my success.
No, things were not always easy but during those tough times, I put things into perspective. I remembered what I was grateful for. If it was due to a mistake I had made, I just tried to learn from them.
One of the biggest lessons I learned was how to be a leader. Leading through experience and empathy. I want people to know that anything is possible. It doesn’t matter how much money you come from, your education level, or any external factors. As long as you know what you want, you work hard, and know that the only person stopping you is you, anything is possible.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Disney or take them to a hot yoga class. Besides that, I work.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a lot of people who come to mind. But the biggest and most important is God. I’ve learned throughout this journey that if you don’t have faith, it is very easy to give in, feel defeated, see things negatively but through him, he is the light guiding me and giving me strength.
