We had the good fortune of connecting with Alberta Genero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alberta, how do you think about risk?

I’ve always looked at risks as a great opportunity. Yes, I can’t deny that taking these risks has scared me in life. One of the biggest risks I took was just two months ago when I left my country, Italy, to move to Miami. I left my family, friends, my career at my gym and all my long term clients behind, basically I got out of my comfort zone to jump into a totally new life. New country, new city, new habits, new culture, new foods, new everything! All this has given me new energy and everyday I’m discovering something new. It’s challenging, even if sometimes it’s hard to integrate myself with it all, but I’m putting forth all my effort to make things work.

I definitely love my job, I do it with the greatest passion and effort everyday and I’m sure that it doesn’t matter where I am physically, I can transmit it anywhere. I love to help people to have good habits, eat healthy, stay active, love themselves and promote strong mind and body. Good energy is universal!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I’m a personal trainer but i prefer the term coach. A coach doesn’t give people only technical support but supports people during their journey, with participation, advice, motivation and helping them to overcome their barriers to a better life.

I started this job because I love fitness and sport, during my path I realized I was good at coaching. People at the gym often asked me for advice and support for their training. Soon they started to request me as their trainer, but I didn’t have a degree or a certification. So I decided to take a class at FiF Federazione Italiana Fitness that took me one year to complete. Since I was self-taught and I’ve always read a lot of sports and fitness books, the exam wasn’t too hard to me and I passed it. I can say that this job has been a calling for me!

My professional journey began here.

After many years my business has grown. Social media has helped me with this growth, especially during Covid. I never thought, before this happened, that on-line training could ever be a good way to train people but  now I think differently. It all depends on your professionalism, you need to be accurate, focused and have the ability to observe and understand accurately your client’s movements, when fatigue sets in and when rest is needed. On-line coaching gives me the great opportunity to work from wherever I am and maintain my Italian clients even if I’m on the other side of the world.

What do I consider essential in my job? Content and motivation.

A fitness program has to be solid and it’s fundamental to set smart short time goals that lead to the ultimate goal. Every step has to be challenging but reachable. Every training has to be fun and stimulating.

I’m a great motivator, I learned to listen and understand people beyond their words, being empathetic is a great asset to have in my job. My biggest goal? It’s to see people feeling better, changing their habits, loving more themselves and their life, having more energy and self esteem. That gives me the energy to go on and to do my best every day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

All my recognition goes to the first person that believed in me. His name is Sallustio, the owner and manager of the gym where I worked for years in Italy (Palestra Uptown Udine). He gave me the opportunity to elevate my potential, he taught a me lot of things every day.

I always observed him when he had a class or while doing a one on one personal training,  trying absorb all his teachings.

I have always looked at him with admiration for the great professional and man he is.

Not only has he taught me the technical aspects. He made me understand how to be empathetic with people, how to understand peoples specific needs and how to to be more generous with my clients.

He’s the kind of person that gives you great energy, even when things don’t go as planned, he always find a plan B. His greatest piece of advice: you always need a plan B.

My shoutout is dedicated to him.
