We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Vainstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factors behind my success are to ensure that my clients have an amazing experience and to provide them with outstanding service. There are thousands of great photographers out there but not everybody offers great service and a fun and memorable experience. The secret is to exceed clients’ expectations with the photographs that you deliver but also with the experience.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My photography journey started at a very young age. I had a point and shoot film camera. I carried it with me all the time. I fell in love with the idea of capturing a moment that would last forever. In college, I enrolled in a photography class and my teacher introduced me to Street Photography. I spent many years focusing on Street Photography while photographing my nieces and nephews on the side. Many people saw my photos and started asking that I photograph their families. I realized I could make money while doing something I loved, so it was a no brainer for me. My business grew rapidly and almost unintentionally. At first I was shooting family portraits. Fast-forward to today, I specialize in headshots and personal branding, fashion photography, family photography and pet photography. What started as a hobby soon became my profession. In part, it happened naturally because I was doing something I loved. There have been challenges along the way. I choose to view these challenges as learning experiences. I turned them into a source of motivation to be a better photographer. I have invested a lot of time and money in my business to provide outstanding quality and service to my clients. The equipment is very costly and it must always be up to date. The time we spend marketing and editing goes unnoticed because it happens behind the scenes. Yet once you build your brand, people begin to recognize you and know your work so it makes it all worth it. One of the things I love the most about my job is that I’m constantly learning which allows me to evolve as a photographer. I will definitely be a lifelong learner, a lifelong student, of photography. The more I learn, the more I can give to my clients. Photography is my passion. I know I am “in my element” when I am clicking the shutter. Since I love photography so much, my goal is for people to love being photographed. I make it a point that when I photograph people, I take them through a totally unique, happy experience. They will never love their photo if they don’t have an amazing experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friend Patty Zrihen, the most talented makeup artist you will ever meet. I used to photograph people using only natural light. I later bought a studio light kit to shake things up. Patty was with me when I first opened that kit and she did the makeup for my first shoot with studio lighting. We spent the whole day photographing. Since that day, she remains my ambassador and someone I can go to for advice and feedback.
