Meet Alex Wilson | Yoga, Wellness, & Community Event Organizer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Curiosity and interest. Having the interest and the curiosity to keep exploring all aspects of yoga, wellness, and personal well-being, is like fuel; it keeps me moving forward in my business. But it’s more than just my interest and curiosity. Other people’s interest and curiosity in these things is paramount. Without that, I wouldn’t have a business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am in the business of creating and holding space for others. I create and hold space for my students by teaching yoga classes. I create and hold space for my community by hosting wellness events that are designed to help people connect with local wellness products, services and professionals. And I create and hold space for my fellow yoga teachers and their students by renting out my studio space so that they can teach yoga in a comfortable environment, and maximize their earning potential.
I feel my best when I’m operating out of my own heart center and using my creative energy to uplift others. Being the energetic worker bee that I am, I’m always looking for new ways to honor that. So, I’m currently super excited for my newest project: a weekly newsletter delivering content to promote personal and professional growth for other heart-centered individuals, business and entrepreneurs, like me.
Getting to this place where I have the time, energy and resources to be 100% dedicated to my work as a heart-centered creator, hasn’t been easy. I spent a lot of years, putting my time, energy, and personal power into other people’s passions and projects. Building the skills, experience and savings necessary to get to a place where I could shift gears and focus on my own passions and projects. I’m not super proud to say that I’ve burnt myself out more than a few times, and every time I experienced burn out, I had to step back, let things go, and give myself permission to rest.
The importance of patience and trust for divine timing has been one of my most difficult lessons. I’ve experienced a lot of unnecessary grief over the years due to my lack of patience. But every job I’ve taken, every skill I’ve picked up, relationship I’ve built, every step on the path has been important and necessary. I would not be where I am today were it not for all of those things; we’re it not for the time it took me to get here.
Through all of my experiences, I’ve had the opportunity to truly discover who I am, what I’m capable of, and what’s important to me. Above all else, I value freedom, exploration, authenticity, community, and kindness. And my work is about creating and holding space for all of those things — for myself and for others — at whatever capacity I can.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Fort Myers, and my idea of a good time looks like taking yoga classes with my favorite teachers at Heart Space Yoga Collective; exploring local events and markets to get outside and into the community while supporting some of my favorite small businesses, like Forever Grounded Coffee, Flying Eagle Kombucha, Groovy Growing, the Wallflower Shop, and more. We would go downtown to shop for crystals and oracle decks at Quartz and Clover, grab smoothies at Bahia Bowls, and walk along the river. Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to Fort Myers without planning a day out at the beach. It’s not the same since the recent storm, but we would picnic in the sand, soak up some sun, and swim in the waves. For a low-key evening out, we’d head over to Flock for some wine and cheese, or the Luminary Rooftop Bar for cocktails at sunset. For a wild night out, it’s Mona Lisa’s for Goblets of Wine and over-crowded Karaoke, or bar hopping downtown. And to satisfy my deep need for creative expression, we might get together with a group of girls for a private art class at the Behind the Buddha art studio.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband. I’m grateful to him for accepting me as I am, supporting me and my crazy ideas, and keeping us stable while I take risks that sometimes push us toward instability.
