Meet Alexander Hernandez | Professional Photographer / Automotive and Aviation Service Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexander, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to be my own boss. At the moment, I, like almost everyone I know, was going through a hard time. I saw a need for photography and I decided to fill that need. I’d like to get into Real Estate Photography as that field is my main interest, but I’m still not where I’d like to be but I am definitely going to get there eventually and I’m going full speed ahead. I’m currently diversifying my skill set so I can be indispensable to any Real Estate firm, as well as Photo/Video, and Marketing firms.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For most of my career I have been in and out of car dealerships, Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac, as an Automotive Service Consultant. Basically I was the guy you would drop your car off with when you bring your car for service. I really know my way around a car, especially GM and MB products. Currently, I am doing that same thing for an aviation shop, working with aircrafts has never really interested me but now I have found happiness here.
That being said I’ve always had a couple hobbies that never got the attention that they deserve. one of which is music. I am an audiophile, I love music and at one point could play several different instruments. Now, mostly because of the 12 hour work day of a dealer, I am out of practice, I’ve kept up with my guitar but I’m nowhere near as good as I used to be.
The other of my hobbies is photography I’ve always been fascinated by how light can be captured, doing it professionally has made me learn so much more than I thought was there. It can be quite challenging trying to capture something that you know is beautiful at the wrong time of day and in the wrong lighting. It has made me appreciate the professional photographers that have been doing this for years.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, first off, breakfast at Isla Canarias, for a couple croquetas and a cafe con leche, then off the Bill Baggs park, AKA El Farito. spend most of the day there, for dinner Moshi Moshi in Brickell.
Day 2, Bayside, Bacon B*tch for breakfast spend the day exploring the area, with the AAA (it’ll always be the AAA, fight me), Freedom tower, the shops at bayside and that area of downtown, lunch at Spyros, and end the day at Toro Toro at the Intercontinental.
Day 3, Design district / Wynwood, start at The Little Hen for breakfast, explore the design district, grab a slice of pizza at one of the many pizza places there head south to Wynwood explore around there and find a place to eat and end the night.
Day 4, Calmate. Maybe hit up a public pool, the water park at C.B. Smith is an excellent choice. maybe hit up chick-fil-a around the corner from there. Netflix, Disney+, HBOmax, or Prime at home.
Day 5, Home, I make amazing eggs benedict for breakfast, lunch will be La Granja, Lomo Salteado, then smash burgers on the grill.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to say my brother, Raul Hernandez. He is a comedian and seeing what he has done has inspired me to go into business. He consistently puts himself out there on the stage and manages the show either in front of the crowd or behind the scenes and either way its seamless, and in just one year has grown the comedy scene here in south Florida. I would like to be that one day for photography.
I would like to mention Gustavo Rodriguez, he is the Service Director at Vera Cadillac. He is one of the most straight up guys you will ever meet, and he rocks that position to the point that he basically runs the dealer. I hold him to a very high regard and can only hope that I achieve the same success as he has.
My wife, Norleen Hernandez, she is always by my side no matter what. She is the top Paralegal at the law firm she works at, I never want to be without her, she is everything to me. I feel complete with her, and when I don’t have her by my side, I feel this magnetic pull towards her, in other words: “If my heart was a compass, you’d be north”. (quote credit: Owl City – If my heart was a house.)
Finally, My daughter, Olivia Rose Hernandez. They say your life changes when you have children, I can confirm that, knowing that she is depending on me gives me that extra push, that motivation to burn the midnight oil, to stay editing pictures until 1AM with my eyes burning until the job is done.
