We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Diaz Vargas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been a person passionate about fashion and since I was a child I imagined having my fashion brand and that is why I studied fashion design in my country Colombia; This taste was largely instilled by my mother, whom I saw sew and design her own dresses at home, nothing commercial, as a hobby, for my older sister and for me and today, whenever she can for my daughter from 6 years old and my 11 year old niece. But this project only began to take shape when I met my husband and father of my daughter, who since we began to know each other and have a formal relationship, encouraged me to take my illustrations as a brand, something that was not easy in Colombia for various reasons. and for this reason we decided to shape it from here, the country of the American dream, the United States.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My illustrations are my passion. Every time I open my notebook, I dream of seeing each one of them embraced by entrepreneurial and empowered women who have dreams and a strong desire to succeed. Each line I draw is a reflection of my creativity, focused on security, elegance, and the drive of a determined, empowered, and beautiful woman from within. I take immense pride in showcasing these illustrations to the world.

This journey has been an immense challenge, filled with tears, hopes, and frustrations. For over 6 years, my husband and I have been nurturing this idea. Countless challenges have come our way, and it hasn’t been easy. However, we firmly believe that one must do whatever it takes to fulfill their dreams, even if it means seeking new horizons. As they say, no one is a prophet in their own land.

Dreams aren’t realized overnight; they require sacrifice and unwavering determination. In my personal life, I’ve experienced moments of depression. But when I pick up my notebook and start drawing, that depression dissipates, and a sense of tranquility washes over me. With each stroke, I envision fashion shows, fabric patterns, cuts, and designs. Over time, my collection of illustrations has grown, and now we are bringing them to life on suitcases, t-shirts, dresses, blouses, and other accessories. We hope to soon expand to exclusive garments under our brand, by God’s grace. I want the world to recognize Alexxx by Yul as a brand made from below and that represents everything that the entrepreneurial woman lives to get ahead with her dreams, always maintaining her best outfit, her best face, her style and elegance.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend and confidant is my husband. Without hesitation, I would take him to visit Manhattan, New York, where we would pay homage to the movie and series “Sex and the City.” We would stroll along Fifth Avenue, enjoying its sidewalks and shops, especially Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo, and Sarah Jessica Parker’s store, to see Karl Lagerfeld’s designs, my inspiration.

On this journey down Fifth Avenue, amidst luxury stores and renowned designers, I would be filled with inspiration. I know my great friend would also provide me with many ideas and capture numerous photos, just for me, always seeking my best side. At the end of the night, we would end up at Monarch Rooftop Lounge, a bar on the 18th floor with an impressive view of the Empire State Building. We would close the evening with a summer cocktail and an obligatory photo at the bar, with the backdrop of New York City’s stunning view

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely yes, my mother and father have been an example of self-improvement, dedication and effort, who with their life teachings, tenacity, have taught me that dreams can only be achieved by working on them, taking your future into your present without fear of the past and that regardless of the challenges God will always reward your way of acting and that is why today I am proudly writing this. God put me on the path to the person who from the beginning believed in my talent and has tirelessly supported me, my husband and gave me the engine of my life, my daughter.
