We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say the most exciting factor would be to show that a lower-middle-class working Hispanic woman can be successful even in an economy that seems to favor the success of rich, predominantly white-passing men. It’s important to me that other people of color, especially women, see that it is possible to be successful with hard work and perseverance. Being raised in Miami has not come without its difficulties being that, one job just didn’t cut it to survive. I have always worked at least two jobs to be comfortable, and I wish it didn’t have to be that way for a lot of the people that live in such a dense, yet beautiful and diverse city like Miami. And after realizing that I was tired of living this way, it became the catalyst for me to invest all my time and hard-earned money in myself and my business.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have always been intrigued by the fetish world and I have such an admiration and love for the women I live and work amongst. So I thought why not create a business that I am going to be passionate about? And then Vixen’s Den was born! I believe that every woman should feel sexy and be proud of expressing themselves through clothing (or lack thereof), sexual expression, art, and everything else under the sun that makes them feel confident, sexy, and powerful. And what better way than lingerie? I also want my shop to be focused on women’s pleasure as well so I want to make sure I include lots of fun toys and high-quality body oils that are going to heighten the woman’s experience while she is exploring her sensuality. Starting a business has certainly come with its own stress that is unlike anything else I have ever experienced but it is one I will gladly deal with because this is something I am truly passionate about and it excites me every day to be working on new ideas and being one step closer to launch. Luckily I have a big support group that keeps me motivated and talks sense into me when I am stressing out. Overall, I hope that my story and brand represent the hope that you too can accomplish anything in this world and when you care about other people and put out good quality work, good things happen, not to just you, but to the people, you are serving.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
After a long trip, I would def start off by taking them to an authentic Hispanic restaurant. I love Peruvian food and one of my favorite spots is Aromas de Peru in South Miami. They have multiple locations and they have the best food, drinks, and service. Next up, I would head up to The Broken Shaker for drinks and a cute, fun atmosphere. It is located in the Freehand in Miami Beach and I always have a great time. If we feel like dancing at this point, I would definitely head over to LIV at the Fontainebleau for a great night of dancing and awesome house music. If they wanted to relax and chill out, I would take them to the Standard for a relaxing spa day. The spa is beautiful, the service is great, and the beach vibes are immaculate. I love being close to the water and skateboarding on the beach is one of my favorite forms of exercise and stress relief.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my father for always instilling a hard work ethic in me as well as my mentor and dear friend for life George Sauma who showed me my true potential and has always steered me in the right direction. He has truly been a father figure and beacon of light to me since my father’s passing and if it wasn’t for him believing in me and telling me that I am capable, I don’t know where I would be. So this goes out to them!
