We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Sarabia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Hello! I would like to start by showing in advance my appreciation for each reader and thank shoutout miami for its interest in my persona and practice. It’s is my absolute pleasure to be writing this lines.

That being said… Let’s get to it!

Im a multidisciplinary artist born in 1990 Caracas, Venezuela. Movement, Fashion and Paint are my main outlets of self expression. In this interview I will focus on stage apparel for performers (emphasis on circus disciplines). I have been most of my life a performer and understand first hand the demanding needs of the stage. Further more, I have experienced how critical to get the right intention to the audience can be and have always supported my statements with the costumes I have made for my acts. Lately, I have been delighted to take part on other performers embodiment of ideas by creating customized gargments for their acts. Having performers trust me to create the wearable part of their visions has been an absolute pleasure full of challenges, ingenuity and artistry. Each performer is exceptionally unique and so are their acts, thus, every time they embody my creations feels like they are taking a piece of me onto the stage with them.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My signature in this niche is attention to detail, quality and passion. I become emotionally invested in each of my creations by finding an emotional personal narrative to tell through my work. The whole process of making a garment is deeply personal. Since I create mostly in solitude at home, my work becomes a window to what I do and who I am when no body is watching, thus, and a garment that has my name on it satisfies personal harmonical standards of beauty, quality and funcionality. They are the tangible part of my essence and identity.

Now, to answer the second part of this section I will take on that last word… “Identity”. Besides the stage (apparel and performance), there is a curious and opinionated Ale that empathetically lives the present times of human existence. A woman that holds up to honor, morale and values which have put diligence to chiseling her identity. An identity that ultimately finds reason beyond the self, understanding that the collective progression starts whit-in and finds sustainability in integrity.

I would like to take the opportunity to mention that there is another artistic universe of me off the stage and I invite you to follow it through @sarabiasart

Lastly, what do I want the world to know about my brand and story?

Rather than refer to the world, I would like to have a personal few lines with each person that I have already and will make garments for. We are experiencing a greed driven world of irrational consumption that is in very much need to the restitution of values, moral and honor from the core out. We as artists with our exceptional skills are bridges to help humanity to get in touch with the mysticality of the human existence. Our acts and creations reach peoples souls. Let’s do it with integrity.

Love always and willing to co-create in the pursue of this vision…
Ale

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, I would like to give the visitor a sense of where are we standing on earth, so I would definitely suggest to take anyone to immerse in the magnificence of the Everglades National Park and the Miccosukee cultural center (indigenous village). Catch an airboat ride, canoe or paddle board and checkout the alligators and other animals in their stunning ecosystem.

I must talk now about night fun and refine from swampy to fancy. I invite you to experience high end specialty acts in town and hopefully catch some performers wearing my garments in venues such as: Faena Theatre, Mila’s Restaurant, Setai Hotel.

Also, please check out the calendar of events for an immersive samba musical experience with Miami Bloco a “Joy-Driven not for profit organization, building pride & belonging in Miami through intergenerational Samba percussion education, and performances.”https://www.miamibloco.org

When it comes to food I feel proud and privileged to live in a tropical place that has active agriculture year round. I would take you to the Read lands and suggest visiting the Fruit and Spice Park, and to grab a bite at the Heritage Market. Also, Visit Glaser Organic farm for produce and already prepared meals. This way our visitor will flavor the real taste of Miami.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout to every person that has been a stepping stone in my path , specially my coach Youri Klepatzky and his studio Acrogravity Academy. As soon as they learned about my sewing skills, provided me with a space within the gym to put together my sewing shop. He also helped me find a job opportunity to temporarily join the wardrobe department of a circus company which helped me polish skills and gain confidence in my practice. I’m forever grateful.

Also, I would like to shoutout to those performer friends who have believed in my skills and requested me to sew for them when I was not even thinking of sewing for others within the circus world, their support has gotten me started.
