We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Hunter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
As a parent, the most important impact I’ve had is to show them how to earn a living on their own. My 13 year old daughter is a business owner now. We discussed coming up with a name for her business, the products she wanted to offer, the look of her company (branding), budgeting, the importance of marketing, and valuing her customers. I told her that whether she decided to continue in entrepreneurship or work for someone else, she is learning everything she needs to be successful. From administrative duties to marketing to manufacturing to logistics, she will learn and know it all first hand. My 5 year old is watching and taking interest in what we are both doing. My ultimate goal is teach my children early what I learned late in life.
What should our readers know about your business?
The Camille Collection is primarily a custom clothing boutique with an Afrocentric focus. Due to the pandemic, I learned to repurpose my business and take my African fabric and make face masks. I took the standard face mask design, researched tools needed, and designed colorful and representative masks. With everything I do, excellence is key. I am meticulous about aethestics so I put my heart into every piece I make. My business began with making bow ties and I’ve evolved tremendously in 5 years.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The beach is one place you cannot visit Florida without going to. My absolute favorite place to eat is Bone Fish Grill which isn’t tied to Florida only however for the view and the food, Benny’s on The Beach is also amazing. Anything that pertains to the ocean is where I would take anyone visiting.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother who founded a successful community based aftercare program was very instrumental in my development. She taught me administrative skills early and provided opportunities for growth. Serving as a program director for her provided the skill set of invoicing, speaking before different groups, organization skills, supervisory skills, and completing my degree.
