Meet Alexis Lozano | Baker & business owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Lozano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always loved baking. Any events that required something sweet I was the first to jump and offer to make something. While baking I lose myself in the art of it and really dive into the passion I have in creativity and transform it into an edible creation . After a very long time considering how I would manage to turn this passion into a business I sat down and got to the planning stage . This isn’t something I came up with overnight and I had always dreamed of owning a bakery. Back in high-school as a senior we had to come up with a mock business and present it to our teacher with samples and a plan on how it would run. Mine was called “Sweet Tooth Avenue”. After much consideration and back and fourth between would this really work, there’s so many similar businesses , and competition out there I jumped and launched my first Instagram post. I planned out one post a week for two months . Each post was a product I would promote and theme it to the holiday that was the nearest . I launched Sweet and Glazy in November of 2022 right before thanksgiving. That gave me the opportunity to make some thanksgiving theme treats for people to see my creations and what I have to offer for other holidays to come.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Sweet and Glazy is not just a bakery or cake business it’s a form of art I put my pride in joy to every single day. Everyday I try and find new ways to make my things stand out. My decorations are made from scratch . Everything I do is personalized to the customers request. I do not take an inspiration picture and replicate it and I won’t ever do that. I love creating and saying wow , i made that. People think this is something easy to do but it’s quite the opposite, I have to make something for a special event in someone’s life and make sure they love it . I have to change my own style to match others to satisfy their needs for their events , parties , get togethers, etc. Let alone make everything presentable in Miami weather which is yet another challenge. When I first started I used things that wouldn’t last an hour in the humid Miami weather and had to research, try and fail to get the products I knew would last the longest and look the best in the heat. I failed PLENTY of times and would cry my eyes out in frustration , disappointment , and so many times I wanted to quit. But I’ve finally almost perfected everything and I say almost cause there’s always room for improvement and everyday I get better at what I do. This all started as a dream I had and used as a project in high school and never had the courage to do until one day I just did it . It has been an amazing almost 3 years and I have so much more coming this year.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami is a very busy city and there’s always some place to go . With that being said I’ve had my fair share of nights out and brunch days. Our week would o a little like this
Monday we would probably go catch a game at Flanigan’s with some drinks and the late night munchies meal deals.
Tuesday I would invite them out to play some pickleball at tropical park and then grab some tacos and margaritas at taco Rico across the street
Wednesday I would take them out for a tasting at Cooper’s hawk
Thursday night would be my favorite for ladies night at PBR country club
Friday nights I would invite them to watch me play some kickball with clubwaka and grab some drinks after at sandbar on the grove.
Saturday we would go hangout on the beach and grab some food on the strip.
Sunday we would go out for drinks and brunch at cooper blues and rest up after to recharge for another fun packed week

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are quite a few people that this would not be possible without .
1st and foremost my family. Without the support each and every single one of them give me I would never have started this business to begin with. They are still my number one supporters both on social media and off.
2nd my amazing friends that pushed me and supported my crazy decision to start this journey . Never letting me doubt myself when things didn’t go as planned and gifting me so many tools to make all my work flourish
3rd this person is a two in one package she’s both my best friend and social media manager without even knowing . She makes any post I need done , has helped build the webpage with all my products , helped me launch my page , and still manages to surprise me everyday with new ideas and promotions for sweet and glazy
Last but definitely not least my boyfriend and his family. Without them this would have never been possible. They are a huge reason why I was able to quit my 9-5 job and focus purely on my business and school . My boyfriend has been both my unpaid employee and my backbone throughout this whole journey . Whenever needed he would be my extra hands to box things up, delivery man when I had too much to do , shopper when I ran out of supplies , and motivational speaker when I wanted to throw in the towel .
There’s so many people behind me and my business and I wouldn’t be anywhere without the army of family and friends I have supporting me every step of the way
