We had the good fortune of connecting with Alfredo Lomelí and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alfredo, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work-life balance is essential. For me, the model of the 24/7 hustle is not a way to live. We’re so used to living in a constant state of stress that we forget to take care of ourselves; feeling bad when we get sick instead of taking time to heal, or always comparing our grind to someone else’s. It’s all an illusion and it can drive you mad if you don’t remember to do things you genuinely enjoy. In my case, I’m fortunate to do something I’m passionate about and even on the most strenuous days, I feel grateful. Even still, I make sure to disconnect from time to time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I once considered myself a late bloomer, because in my mind I was supposed to reach a certain level of success by my mid-twenties. I now know that there is no such thing as aging out of your dreams. As a multi-disciplinary artist who has worked in TV/Film/Musical Theatre/Digital, I realized I had to work harder because the last thing I wanted was to be a jack of all trades and a master of none. Truth is, modern media requires all of us to be multi-disciplinary, and those who aren’t are quickly being left behind in this ever-changing landscape. What sets me apart is the love for story-telling, not fame. I live for the lessons and the growth that comes with being able to entertain the masses, and there is always a lesson. One of the most important ones I’ve learned is that you cannot lie to the audience, at least not for long. People are aware and they sense genuine behavior. Breaking out of my shell, so-to-speak, was difficult because only by being truly vulnerable can you do your best work. And it’s a constant reminder being in the public eye.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d make sure to take any friends or family visiting the Miami area to restaurants such as NIU Kitchen, The Local House, Doya, Red Rooster, Beaker & Gray, or Los Felix. A beach day(or two) would be mandatory and depending on the friend, it could be SoBe, Virginia Key, or Haulover. Grabbing Kayaks and paddleboards is a great way to bond with friends and anything active is always my recommendation. For night-time fun, Mayami is a great place to start the night dancing, followed by some hopping around Wynwood bars.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate all of my success to my big Mexican family, whose struggles to make it in America taught me about faith, discipline, and gratitude.
