We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am very crafty and creative. Being a single mother I had to find ways to take care and provide for my family. I needed the control of provision at my fingertips. It is immensely uncomfortable relaying on one means of income. Starting my business was familiar because I helped so many people start their businesses. When I finally decided it was my turn to promote and believe in my own vision, I found a reassuring confidence that continue to fuel me to this day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am innately hands-on crafty. This sets me aside because I will always add my own twist to what ever I create. Aside from soaps and candles, I’ve sown, crochet, repurposed antique items, made jewelry, and because I consider myself a “forever student”, I’m adding to my repertoire. I was confident and excited to start my own business, but the ability to finance it was the discouraging part. Guilt would set in and my children’s needs always came first. It took a while but I slowly invested in my start up. Once people saw my dedication, I started getting little investments here and there.

One of the lessons I’ve learned along the way is to be persistent. No matter how it looks or feels, remembering my “why”, and emotions are temporary, only the truth will remain.

My why = to provide for my children on my own.

My truth = I get out of it what I put into it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a mermaid so of course I LOVE the beach day or night. I also love Crafts Markets. The music, food, and atmosphere is energizing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my 3 children for loving and motivating me daily. To my parents, family and friends that listens to my ideas and are in awe at the manifestations. Shoutouts to all my customers that trust me and love my products and to my grandmother Grace, she was my #1 fan.
