We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Williams, M.S.L and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alicia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The Most Important Factor Behind the Success Of My Business and Brand There are two factors of which I attribute the success of both my business and my brand. The first and most important factor is Service. Most business owners go into business and start brands solely for the purpose of making a profit. While this is a valid reason, it is not usually one that births lasting success as your business decisions will be fueled by your ability to earn income. Therefore, because of this money drive, if you are selling a product or rendering a service, you may not be concerned about the product or service quality or aspects like customer service as your aim is to make a profit. And to ensure that regardless of the economy you are still profitable, you might begin to cut corners which will eventually shorten the longevity of your brand or business. Consequently, I feel new entrepreneurs and business owners should prioritize service rather than paychecks as this improves the brand’s perception and builds clientele. Work on serving the people and your community with your brand. Identify a problem and create solutions that eliminate that problem in whatever niche your brand is. By doing this, you’re serving. The second factor is in the People. I believe the people you surround yourself with or associate with will influence both your professional and personal life. When starting a company or a brand, you’ll need to surround yourself with certain categories of people and for the success of my business and brand, I surrounded myself with people from 3 of these categories. I call them the 3 A’s, first you have your Assignments. These are the people you pour your energy into. They’re the clients and people who will help you establish your brand through word of mouth. Next, the Associates as the name implies are the people you associate with. These are the partners, colleagues, and members of staff who help keep the brand and company running. And lastly, the Additions. This category of people adds value or purpose to your life. They could be friends, family, and sometimes complete strangers! While we may all have our independent success formula for building a business and brand, one thing is for sure, without hard work and a love for the work that you do, your brand cannot reach its full potential. One of my favorite quotes when I started my business “Make it YOUR business to be about YOUR business” reigns true to this day.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner and founder of Training Source One, Inc., a nationally accredited professional development training organization. As an experienced educator and professional development trainer, I possess a flexible yet action-oriented practical approach in her work as a training professional, strategist, education consultant and speaker. Currently I help individuals and organizations of diverse fields nationwide to extract the full potential of staff, sustain high-quality professional practices by enhancing systems and individuals to engage in activities, raise overall staff expertise, and build enthusiasm and passion in the team through accredited leadership training programs. What sets my organization apart from my competitors is my ability to concierge services to my clients. My clients are special and I treat them like they are. Although there have been many challenges when building my business, I’ve always counted them as stepping stones. I admit there were times that I did NOT know my next move. You see, I’m that educated woman that could not land a steady job, so I had to create my income . I created a thriving tutorial company (Script-Fully U Enrichment, Inc.)that morphed into a training company. I went on to becoming a college instructor while operating my training company simultaneously. After 8 years, I quickly realized that I would never “play big” if I continued to allow others to determine when I was to train or teach. At this point, I’m walking through the fears l’ve had since my childhood. Fears that can only be conquered through faith. Faith has to be backed with works! God has blessed me with a tremendous about of grace, mercy but more importantly favor!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take visitors to Downtown Miami, specifically Brickell Boulevard. There so many restaurants and jazz clubs that appeal to all types of people.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am most grateful for the consistent love and support from my husband, family and friends. I am where I am because of their love and encouragement
