We had the good fortune of connecting with Alison Kreideweis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alison, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I built my business on the principles of community, inclusiveness and helping people achieve their goals. Empire Tri Club welcomes all athletes to our team and has a very diverse community – we want everyone to feel included, welcome and supported!
While we do train many elite athletes to compete in a national or world championship, training a first timer to compete in their first small local race can be just as special! It’s remarkable to see beginners blossom into seasoned athletes and take on new challenges!
We help athletes perform at their best in a supportive, judgement-free environment.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started Empire Tri Club in 2010 with my cousin Jessica McDonald. We spent several months creating a brand, building a website and writing a business plan before launching our club, which I think sets us apart from other teams and has helped us create a vision and long team goals for our company. I am very proud of the community we created. I think success is not just measured by how much money you make, but how many lives you impact. It has not always been easy. It takes a lot of time and energy to start and grow a business and we’ve had to learn so many things along the way including marketing, web design, accounting, coaching, and more.
Since starting the business, my cousin and I have both moved and raised 3 kids each, AND had to adjust our entire business plan throughout COVID and shifts in the fitness industry. We’ve learned to be adaptable, communicate openly and embrace change!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take them for a run or walk around the reservoir in Central Park, which offers great views of the city skyline. Central Park is one of my fav places in NYC, offering green space which feels like such an escape from the hustle and bustle of NYC.
A few of my other fav spots are Wellington in the Park and Pier i Cafe – both offering outdoor dining along the Hudson in Riverside Park!
During their stay we’d have to get a good bagel, as well as great taco’s and a good margarita.
We’d likely try and scoop up tickets to see a Broadway show and do some shopping in Soho!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family. I grew up in a very supportive environment where I had the opportunity to pursue many athletic pursuits, a good education and take the risk to start my own business. My parents are great role models.
