We had the good fortune of connecting with Alvey Thompson Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alvey, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factors behind the success of me and my brand are hands down authenticity and vulnerability.
What I mean by authenticity is always striving to show up as myself. I consistently lean on my values and principles which serve as my north star. The way I think, speak, and act come from a place that is true to me, not from a place of people pleasing or what I think people want me to say.
Vulnerability is a superpower in my opinion. To be vulnerable is being open and willing to share in a deep way without being afraid of what other people are going to think of me. I’ve realized that sharing my story and the experience of how my mom’s untimely death changed my life has allowed people to feel connected to me on a personal level.
When people experience me consistently coming from a place of authenticity and sharing vulnerably it builds affinity for me and my brand.
What should our readers know about your business?
You Can 2 is a brand that empowers people to be the best versions of themselves. We accomplish this by helping you get in the best shape of your life physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. What sets us apart is that we take a holistic approach to your growth. We understand that there are many facets to your life and all of them need a certain amount of love, energy, and attention paid to them. This includes, but is not limited to your health, well-being, personal growth, career, relationships, leisure, and community. We strive to help you build awareness on where you currently are in your life, where you desire to be, and ultimately co-create with you a personalized plan to help you fill that gap.
We are most proud of changing the definition of what it means to be healthy. Health is not just the physical aspects like fitness and nutrition. It also includes stress management, proper sleep hygiene, having a personal dream to strive for, having great relationships, and overcoming challenges. Teaching men and women how to take 100% responsibility for their lives has been a game changer in helping these people create positive change in their lives.
We got to where we are today business-wise by leading by example. As the founder, I have embraced the opportunity to optimize every aspect of my health in order to maximize my life. This was not easy, but necessary. When my mom died from her botched surgery, I had two choices. To crumble or build myself up. I saw my flaws and decided to intentionally work on them. This led me to work on my mental and emotional health. I saw the value in how I shifted my personality and way of being. As a result, I committed to bringing this level of health to my clients and all I serve.
The biggest lessons I learned along the way is that I can not give from an empty cup. Therefore, I take care of myself at a high level through different habits and routines so that I can help others to the highest of my capabilities. A second lesson is compassion is key. Having compassion for myself and others is a catalyst for better understanding. My third lesson is that life is now. Any change that I want to create gets to be worked on now. Tomorrow is not promised. Yet, so many people take their time for granted. Don’t fall for this trap. Start now. Be consistent. Live in the present moment.
I want people to know that the transformation that I made in my life and that thousands of other people made in their lives shows what is possible. Whatever you are looking to achieve, understand that there are hundreds, if not thousands of people who are have done their version of this. Instead of hating on that person, use it as motivation of what is possible! Realize that if he, she, or myself can do it, then #YouCan2!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My friends love to be active, enjoy good food, and be in nature. Be sure to check out South Pointe Park on Sunday where you will find music, yoga, and dancing.
I highly recommend checking out Anatomy Midtown. It is a great place to workout and recover. Definitely check out the sanctuary where you can take advantage of contrast therapy by hitting the cold plunge and hot tub. Also, feel free to hit the sauna and steam room while you’re there.
Some of my favorite places to eat outside of my home is Kush and Pura Vida. It can be hard to find higher quality ingredients when dining out in Miami, but these two places fit the bill!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my mom, Vicki Warech. Her untimely death, our relationship at the time of her passing, and all of the learning lessons since then has allowed me to grow into the man I am today. My love for service comes from her. I now truly understand how important it is for me to fill my own cup first so that I am in a position to powerfully help others.
