We had the good fortune of connecting with Alycia Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alycia, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance is a vey important topic for me and the community I lead. I used to feel that there were never enough hours in the day, days in the week or months in the year to accomplish all of the assignments I was tasked. It was not until I had my one and only “panic” attack that I realized things had to change.
In settling myself down and learning to listen to what I like to call my “God-voice”, I began to understand that life is to be lived daily in a very balanced way, 12-hours for God and 12-hours for man. Learning to incorporate this concept into my daily schedule has helped me immensely. I have learned to stop working on “worldly” activities daily at 6pm. My evenings are filled with powerful routines that enhance my mental and spiritual growth and set me up to create a powerful start for the next day.
I have learned over time to use all of the tools that are available to me to obtain a work life balance that works for me. I am very cognizant of the assignments I take on, of the company I keep and what I take in spiritually, mentally and physically. I am a true believer in…the more you pray, meditate and spend time with God the less you have to do.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the creator of “The 1212 Community”. This community is dedicated to teaching everyone, who chooses, how to re-calibrate their lives to live 12-Hours for God and 12-Hours for Man. We accomplish this in a variety of ways.
– Rising early to journal at 5AM daily
– Learning to re-balance our lives to only give 12-hours to “worldly” assignments and 12-hours to spiritual development
– Using our dreams as tools that assist us during our daily activities
– Understanding the rhythm of our own unique lives
I am definitely a product of the product. I truly believe and have come to understand that you can only take others as deeply as you yourself have gone. I relate to so many who cross my path. I too was living a foggy existence. Working, paying bills, keeping little humans alive, barely existing in a broken marriage…all the while thinking to myself “there has got to be more to life than this.” If there isn’t, this is some “fraggle naggle bull”.
I remember sincerely praying and making a promise to God. “If you show me how to turn all of this around….my finances, parenting, relationship, career…I’ll squeal like a pig and tell everyone who crosses my path. Well, here we are 13 year later and I’m squealing and teaching everyone I know how to re-calibrate their lives 12 hours at a time.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I’m in Miami I am always there for a cruise and tack on a few days before or after our trip so we can explore and hang out. I can’t say I have a favorite spot, but hubby and I love hanging out in the evenings and strolling the strip of South Beach.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to Shoutout Pasha Cook, the Creator of CultureCulture Life, a life-style brand. She continues to inspire me as she grows and evolves into the true creative she was born to be. She started her business at the height of the Covid pandemic and has taken the brand from idea to full production in less than 2 years. She is constantly pushing the envelop to create what she truly believes and is relentless in her desire to bridge all cultures through her work.
