Meet Alyssa McElroy | Creative Craft and Baking Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa McElroy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My entire life I have been a creative person. I have visions for projects that have always come so easily to me. I have a background in music and the arts, with a degree in filmmaking. I like to consider myself a jack of all trades and enjoy baking, party planning and creating personalized gifts. Anything I can do to show my creative side is what I am drawn to.
Once I became pregnant I wanted a job that I loved that also allowed me to be home with my baby. She is ultimately what inspired the Moonchild Baby Boutique where we specialize in unique, personalized baby onesies as well as some Mommy knick knacks too!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart from others is my attention to detail. I am a perfectionist. Whether it be a birthday cake, wedding cake, baby onesies or wine glasses, coffee mugs and car decals, crocheted blankets…you name it, you will get 110% of my heart put into each and every project. No job is more important than the other. At the end of the day I want to bring happiness to the world. If my shirt, or cake or blanket can put a smile on someone’s face it puts one on mine. At the end of the day, who doesn’t love a personalized gift?!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the Poconos there is plenty of nature to go around! In the fall with the leaves changing color it is the perfect time for a hike. After a nice hike in the crisp air, the perfect place for dinner would be Boulder View Tavern. Great restaurant that sits on a lake. Good place to get drinks as well. They host a happy hour and trivia night with live music. You can get a relaxing massage at Tranquil Moments of the Poconos, to support an independent woman owned business. Mohegan Sun is a casino near by that has live music, good food and drinks and horse racing. If you are looking for good family fun in the fall there is a corn maze called Mazeilla at Klingel Farms where you can have fun getting lost, and don’t forget your pumpkin and fresh apple cider on the way out!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Though my motivation is my baby girl, I owe a lot to my mother and husband. Growing up my mom encouraged me to pursue anything I wanted to do in life. And my husband has also been instrumental in helping me with the supplies and support needed to complete my projects, whether it be a cake I am making for a customer or a baby clothes order he is by my side with anything I may need.
