We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Libby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, what makes you happy? Why?
There are so many factors that play into happiness but I think waking up every single day with gratitude for my life, my husband, my community, and my career is what allows me to feel happy every day. From the moment I started photography to ten years later, what makes me happy is the ability to connect with clients and capture their story. It just so happens that working from home in my pajamas most days with my pup at my feet and working wedding days alongside my husband also make me extremely happy. I find comfort and independence in the flexibility of working for myself and having a partner in life that I get to also share my business with. I’m grateful I found a career that blends so many of my favorite things together. I truly feel like I’m living my dream life.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our business is called The Libbys, and we offer photography and videography services for weddings and portraits. We’re based in Maine – but we love to travel! What sets us apart is that we are a husband and wife team that have a passion for capturing heartfelt moments through a genuine experience. I photographed my first wedding in high school grown over the past 10 years to recently rebranding to offer videography and work alongside my husband. There have been challenges along the way, of course – but when you love what you do it’s all worth it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As I mentioned, we’re based in Maine but we have so much love for Miami! We have been there during our college spring break, to shoot weddings nearby, and I even came for my bachelorette party! One of my favorite parts when visiting Miami is experiencing the boutique hotels in South Beach. From overnights, pools, and incredible food!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is no doubt that I wouldn’t be where I am today without the guidance and support of my parents. They were the very first people to believe in me, instill confidence in me, and they even helped me invest in my first camera. From the moment I met my husband, he continued that support throughout my career and more recently started working with me! I couldn’t ask for a better partner in life & business. I’m also blessed with an amazing community of wedding vendors that have provided collaboration, referrals, and the best network to navigate the life of self-employment and the wedding industry. My education at The University of Southern Maine where I studied Communications & Marketing no doubt played a role in my ability to connect with my clients and market my business. However, I also give credit to the many self-help books, webinars, online classes I took along the way including Marie Forleo’s B SCHOOL which was a pivotal moment for me in my career. But more than anything, a big thank you to my clients for believing in me from the very beginning and trusting me to capture such special moments in their life.
