We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Moreira Molly McGovern and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda Moreira, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
As a team, we believe that following the “conventional path” is something that we would disagree with wholeheartedly. We feel like when people are growing up it’s embedded in their brains that there’s only one way to be successful and respected. We believe that your present source of income should not deter you from your dreams. It’s very easy to get lost in a comfort zone, but finding your fulfillment is breaching out of that zone. This is something we’re going through right now, but there’s always light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how hard the struggle is to get there.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets us apart from others would be we’re both first generation and we are carving our own way. One thing that we are for sure proud of is no matter how hard it is or gets we still moved to Miami, on our own. One big factor of our move was our bikini line. The climate in Miami is better suited to promote bikinis, rather than being in Boston under a foot of snow. Professionally, this is just the beginning of where we really want to be, and we are doing everything in our power to get there. It’s not easy, but we’re growing everyday as people and entrepreneurs. Our biggest challenge is having a clear vision of what we want and where we want to be, but still having to focus on our current roles. The best way we feel that we can overcome that is just taking everything day by day, and never giving up. The biggest lesson we’ve learned along the way is sticking to your morals. It may take you longer to get there, but in the end you will feel more fulfilled and accomplished than you would if you took the easy route. We wouldn’t have this brand today if ten years ago we weren’t sat in alphabetical order in a high school photography class. You never know who could be placed right in front of you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If we had a friend visiting us, we would first see what’s going on for that weekend. If it’s a more relaxed weekend, we love finding restaurants in hotels. They’re always a good environment with greats views and happy people. Some of our favorite spots are Watr at the 1 Rooftop and brunch at Fuego y Mar located in The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach. We love having a calm beach day, our go to spots are the beaches in Sunny Isles. All of our best experiences in the Miami nightlife scene have been with our friend/promoter Prince (@princehasspoken). He always makes sure we’re taken care of, comfortable, and respected. Picnic Island is also a fan favorite for us, however, getting there is only by boat or jet-ski. We honestly just like to be where the good and positive energy is.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would love to give a huge shout out to Amanda’s aunt in Brazil, Izabella Cipirani and our seamstress Neide Morais. Without them we wouldn’t be able to make our dream a reality.
We would also like to give a big shout out to both of our parents, Marcia and Renato Moreira and Francesca Giani and John McGovern. We’re extremely grateful for the unconditional belief and support that they have always given us throughout all of our endeavors.
Xoxo,
Amanda & Molly
