We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Parsons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance is a cornerstone of Small Business Babes. I personally battled migraines for many years and know other women who also battle chronic pain, are caretakers, or for other reasons can’t work a typical 9-5 job. Every month we have a wellness speaker come on to educate the women in our community on how to take better care of themselves and open the conversation on how hard it can be to find balance. These live trainings are completely free to the public and are online so no matter where you are, you can get the support you need. We also have a monthly business guest speaker covering topics like accounting, marketing, social media, and more. By providing both of these on a monthly basis in addition to weekly and monthly conversations with the women in our community, we strive to help every woman find the work life balance they deserve.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Small Business Babes was created to provide accessible education and support to female business owners everywhere. As an entrepreneur I heard so many women say “I just need more business BFFs” – my goal is to solve that problem. Along the way I have made my fair share of mistakes and had my own learning curves. One thing I have learned the most is that while it’s important to listen to the market, it is also important to stay true to your own mission and values. It can be easy to get swept up in the hype and people telling you to try new things. I love to try new things and I know that stepping outside my comfort zone is what got me to where I am today. However, I also know that along the way I may have leaned a little too far into what people were telling me to do when I should have leaned into my own intuition and ideas. If you are a business owner, I challenge you to create a list of values and turn back to that any time you are making business decisions.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This sounds so fun! If we were together for a week we would probably spending most of our time outside in this beautiful weather. I would take them to the Everglades one day, make sure to spend a day downtown and check out Wynwood, and bring them to my favorite local small businesses. If I’m lucky, my friend is coming on the week of one of our networking events or public markets and I can bring them there too!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Amanda Vincenty! Amanda Vincenty joined Small Business Babes in June and helps us plan amazing events and markets for our business babes.
