We had the good fortune of connecting with Amaya Santos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amaya, tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would say my art is a reflection of myself, what I’m feeling and the story or part of me that I would like to share. Every song that I write is like my baby and so it can be a bit scary to see how others will receive it or react to it. When I first started to release music, I would get overwhelmed and sometime sad because I spent so much time creating music, trying to perfect everything, creating visuals and its not only an emotional investment but also a financial one. I would put in all of this effort and I didn’t see the reaction I hoped for because I needed to find listener and I became very obsessed with the #s but I realized that it didn’t matter. I instead focused on my music and yes the listeners came with time. I remembered why I started to make music in the first place, its for me and it should be fun and it should continue to be something that I enjoy, which it still definitely is.

I am most proud of the new music I am creating, I think that as I continue to learn and experiment with my music, I get to grow and try new things that I really love. I have had ideas and songs that I wrote some time ago and that I/m getting to work on again now I’m very excited to share it with everyone.

Something I would want the world to take away from me or my story is that you can do anything you set your heart to. I know that sounds cliché but its true. I have wanted to create music my whole life but didn’t sooner because of my own personal fears and insecurities. I don’t think I’m even close to some of my goals as a musician but everyday I wake up and I try, I put in effort and I would not be where I am today if continued to let my fears get in the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So Im currently in NY but I was in Miami last week filming my new music video so I will give you some of my favorite places there. I would start at Imperial Moto Café because I need coffee to stat my day. They have the most delicious mushroom and cheese empanadas that I have ever tried.

Since I grew up in Ft Lauderdale, I would work my way down to Ft Lauderdale beach. There are so many cute restaurants along the beach and its always nice to relax under the sun.

Ella Cafe in plantation is also one of my favorites, its cute and the sandwiches are delicious!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends and family who have been so supportive and encouraging!

George Levin, who is my best friend and an incredible director. He has helped create all of my artwork for my singles as well as directing and shooting all of my music videos and visual content.

I’m also incredibly grateful for all of the producers I have been able to work with and that have been so helpful in bringing my ideas to life and making them even better than I hoped for. As well as the incredible musicians perform live with me, the inspire me every day to keep going.
