We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Schryver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success and reputation of Oh My Occasions® is also what we value the most in our principles… authenticity. Being true to myself as an individual, creative, and business woman, is what has driven the passion in my brand and company. From a young age, I was infatuated with events – the elaborate production elements, the attire, the way guests were invited, the music, the details, everything! So, my success as a business is directly related to the fact that I run in with pure passion and love. I have been creating events ever since I can remember (my family would call them “Basement Broadways”). What’s important about any company is that the driving individuals are operating it not as a hobby, but out of fulfillment to their soul. I can truly say that I LOVE what I do. Planning and designing events allows me to combine my creative spirit with my business mind and organizational energy. The success of Oh My Occasions® is entirely due to my mission of making sure every couple I meet, every event I design, is planned and tended to with the same love and attention I gave to my shows as a child. That authentic desire to create for someone else’s happiness and awe is what led to the reality of Oh My Occasions®. We promise to provide our clients and their guests with that “oh my” reaction of seeing something they never have before. The authenticity to my brand and myself is also a driving factor in how I operate my social media – we don’t pay for followers or testimonials or anything that would be a “fake” reflection of what we’ve built. The photos we share on our website, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc. are from events that we have planned and designed, and we credit the rest of our talented wedding team who made those events happen. The number one factor in event success is the trust between a client and their planner, and I want that relationship to begin before they’ve even met me. The first step in that is transparency in showing how we operate genuinely and through authentic social media reflection.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
At Oh My Occasions®, we work with clients who are excited about their event, want to have fun during the planning process, and aren’t afraid to embrace something unique about themselves. Our philosophy is “embracing your unique story and bringing your vision to life”, so every piece of our planning and design process reflects that. What sets our company apart from others is our promise to deliver an event that has guests experiencing an event that is FULL Of unique elements, heartfelt touches, and fun surprises. We want them to walk into your room/tent/terrace pointing out the things that are so “you”. Hearing guests ooh and ahh with, “Wow, this is sooooo John and Sue!” or “Oh my! Of COURSE they would have this!” or “I’ve never seen this before” is music to my ears. We aim to create events that are just as unique as our couples. I am so excited for every new couple that joins the Oh My Occasions® family because it means another one-of-a-kind relationship and event we get to embrace. I would have to say that the most difficult period in my career has been during the pandemic. Not being able to formally celebrate love, gatherings, and joy for so many months almost feels like I’ve been on a diet missing out on my absolute favorite foods! Events like weddings are so special because it’s one of the few times in a couple’s lives where a variety of people from all different times in their lives are together in one spot to celebrate THEM. My heart grows fuller each and every time I witness these occasions, so being without them while things were shut down has been disheartening. Guiding my couples through tough decisions like postponements or complete reworking of their events due to the pandemic was trying, but that’s where the trusting relationship comes in. I am looking forward to safely being able to hug my clients and celebrate with them soon!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in South Florida are usually the “hidden gem” places. While doing the tourist-y things are always fun (visiting the beach, checking out museums or fairs, viewing Wynwood walls) I actually love finding little mom and pop style places the best! I really enjoy supporting local small business whether it’s waiting in line for the most delicious donuts or grabbing a coffee at a family run cafe!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The success of my company is entirely due to supportive friends and family members who surround my life. Along with clients who trust my vision and guidance, these are the individuals who allow Oh My Occasions® to continue growing. My Event Ambassador team and Associate Planners are crucial in running our behind the scenes management software, answering emails, attending meetings, and assisting with day of event execution. I would not be running such a well-oiled company without the help from those individuals. I have an incredible group of event planner colleagues who I can consult with for advice during new situations or trust with recommendations for a wide range of topics. Being able to have such a strong collection of friends/family/fellow creatives is what keeps me strong and excited about what I do!
