We had the good fortune of connecting with Amorette “Epiphany” Lormil and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amorette “Epiphany”, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is community. I am not afraid to ask for help. I am not afraid to find when I don’t have. I also allow my community to force me to rise to the occasion. I surround myself with people who will only accept greatness from me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My ability to hear my own voice and stay on footing with my own narrative and energy is what sets me apart. Every work of art I make is authentic to how I see the world and experience life. All of my challenges have come from me trying to veer off and do some thing that I am not called for. My success is rooted in me staying true to myself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I will take them to eat at Happy Wings and Fried Rice on ugly corner. Then we may go get drinks at Rock Bar… At some point we would end up eating authentic Haitian cuisine from Bistro Creole Restaurant.
For fun we would definitely go to Las Olas.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My best-friend Michael Curry, stellar poet and phenomenal photographer has been a grounding station for me on every level from artistic to personal.
The Poetry book Black Queer Hoe by Britteney Black Rose Kapri was also a revolutionary read for me in understanding myself and my womanhood.
