We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Solares and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, how do you think about risk?
As a self taught Artist I knew I had to work on my confidence. My creativity was solely an outlet in the beginning of my Art Journey. I built my confidence over time. Marketing myself was my very 1st step, with a online portfolio in Oct 2013, because of the amazing support I was receiving from Friends and Family after I completed a tree wall mural in my home, I started Unique Designs by A.Lee as a Muralist. I offered free to little in cost for people and business in and around my community. I did different creativity crafts along with many murals. I started practicing animal and people portraits in a few different mediums since 2016. I finally had a leg to stand on by the year 2017. It has taken me about seven years to get as far as I have with no formal training, and am still trying to reach my full potential. Risks are such a crucial part in growth, and learning. I always wanted to participate in the local street painting festival, and never thought I was good enough. Now, I participate in the Lakeworth Street Painting Festival annually, since 2018. If I never believed in myself and took risks, I would have been missing out on so much.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve made it thus far on faith and determination. What I love the most is the impact my art makes in someone else’s world. Kids, adults and all ages enjoy Art. I always had a passion for art since I can remember. I started creating again as an adult in 2013, by drawing and painting to help with depression. I created a tree mural in 2013 that received a lot of compliments that I decided to start an online portfolio via facebook, at the end of 2013. As a Self-taught Artist there has been a lot of trails and errors. I still enjoy giving back, by creating portraits for others as gifts, with no cost to them, and local community work .
There’s been a handful of times where I’ve thought about stopping . However, I know giving up, or quiting isn’t an option.
There’s more joy in creating and making a difference in somebody’s life than any dollar amount. I’ve learned Art is a universal language. It heals and it connects everyone. When creating mural and portraits I want it to be full of life. Especially Portraits, the eyes are so important, they reflect so much.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
