We had the good fortune of connecting with Ana Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I was a lillte kid I always knew I wanted to be close to music, I was not sure how untill my dad gave me a guitar that I discover my self songwriting. It was then I started to take singing classes, guitarr classes and began to participate with friends in singing groups, I was studying communications at that time so I started singing at church in order to pay my singing lessons. I have been developing my career for 28 years now as an independant singer/ songwriter artist.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I come from a southern State in Mexico called Oaxaca, a place where culture, art and music are all around, in the streets in the festivities. That has been an important start point in my career. But even though most of singers in my state dedicate their project only to tradittional music, I chose to enter the songwriting path, I believe is important to have a voice in what we choose to sing and our voice as our instrument can go different ways, I never wanted to dedicate to one music gender instead I like to experiment the fusion of music rythms and paths. I am self instructed in music and my artistic project covers jazz, pop, balad, cumbia, latin and mexican tradittional.
My lyrics talk about powerfull women, about love in different ways, I also like to reflect social matters and promote peace an union.
I work in many collaborative projects with other singers and songwriters and I have been able to take my music beyond the borders of Mexico,
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oaxaca is full of fun and interesting places, no doubt I would take them to visit the town markets where they will find all kinds of arts and crafts. Oaxaca is well recognized by the work of its artisans on clay, tin, textiles, palm . The architecture of the city is beautiful , colorfull and with a lot of history. A cooking class would be great as Oaxaca is well recognized by its rich gastronomy. I would also take them to a Mezcal tour and a special day for visiting the MonteAlban ruins.
A scape to the mountains at Sierra Norte or the beaches at the Coast in Puerto Escondido will be a great trip also.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To my son and daughter for being and everyday inspiration to my music and to Oxama my partner in music for believing in my songs and voice since day one and being part of my band for all these years.
