Meet Anais Vivas | Floral and Event Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anais Vivas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anais, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When we fled Venezuela and came to Miami we had to leave everything behind. I had a successful career as a singer and my mom had dedicated her last couple of years to helping me as part of my team. Coming to Miami was a complete shock for the whole family, no one had a job anymore and we had to figure out quickly what we were going to do. It took a couple of months and different jobs here and there until one day I decided to open an Instagram account for my mom to showcase her passions and skills. She has always been very crafty and had been in the event industry for years when I was younger. I thought maybe she could sell some flower arrangements for her friends here, small parties at their houses, something that could give her a revenue doing what she loves and also give her a distraction. I named it Aniska after our house in Venezuela which had that name, the combination of my mom’s, my sister’s and my name. To our surprise, two days after we started posting on instagram she got her first job doing flower arrangements for a kids party, and the next week some more, and so on. We quickly realized it had potential and we started polishing the idea. We analyzed the market, and saw there was space for her style of floral arrangements in the hispanic event community in Miami. She knew how to do balloon arrangements, planning, paper decorations, furniture restauration, but we had to focus and find what we thought was less saturated, so we decided to focus on flowers! Which was a complete joy because it’s what she has loved the most all of her life! It has been almost three years now and I decided to join her in the business since it was growing so fast. She handles all the creative and design side and I handle the business side of it, orders, proposals and marketing. We are completely in love with our business and can’t wait to see how it keeps growing!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a mother-daughter business focusing on floral event design. We also love teaching and opened Aniska Flower School where we teach floral design mostly in spanish for the Latin American community throughout the United States and South America. We have learned that staying true to your instincts and listening to your inner voice can take you far! Everyone has different opinions of how you should handle your business, and it’s good to hear, to look for advice, but the last decision has to be what’s in your gut!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Isaac Farms for a beautiful escape! Finka Table and Tap for amazing food! D Bakers, Keik and Piononos for sweets!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
