We had the good fortune of connecting with Andie Monet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started my first business, it was out of necessity. I didn’t have any income. I was homeless. And I had no idea how I was going to survive. That was 35 years ago. Since then I’ve started many businesses. But there are 2 reasons that I reasons (for myself) that I have my own businesses. First, I don’t want anyone telling me, nor do I want to feel guilty about my children being sick or wanting to attend one of their events. My family is a priority. Second, I bust my butt when I work, because that’s just who I am. If I’m going to put 110% into anything that I do, I might as well get paid for my efforts, value, knowledge, skills, and amazingness.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a Business Optimization Expert who creates explosive growth WITHOUT adding any costs or hours to the business. Explaining how I do that helps to know how I started. This requires me to get a bit geeky here. My original degree was in engineering and physics. Engineering is about design, based on constraints. Physics is about how the world works. Much of what I did was taking multiple inputs, several variables, and find a solution to dozens of parameters all at the same time. Add in a bit of biology and behavior of organisms, and you end up with me. I used this background and applied it, actually by accident, to business. In a nutshell, I “create a picture” of a business, with all its processes, procedures, existing IT infrastructure, people, strengths, leadership, industry, costs, and hundreds of variables, and I pinpoint a few areas that create explosive revenue or profit growth.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I just moved here, so I don’t know much. But that’s okay! I’d fly them (on my private jet) to Northern California. We’d start in San Francisco and eat at Mark Hopkins, and get in all the fun and amazing sightseeing like Alcatraz, Cliff House, Transamerica and COIT tower. Then we’d head up the coast to Stinson Beach for the day and then dinner at the Pelican Inn or Mountain Home Inn. We’d wake up and go for a hike on Mt Tamp, then head up to the Wine Country in Napa county!

Maybe take a balloon ride or jump out of a perfectly safe airplane! Who knows!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom abandoned me at 16 years old, and I was homeless and parentless. But I realized 2 things. First, she empowered me as long as I could remember that I was capable of anything. I was smart enough. I was strong enough. And I was stubborn enough to do what I wanted to do. Second, even though she abandoned me, I learned how to love people where they “are”. We are not born with wisdom. Life happens and we do the best we can with what gets thrown at us. I respect that in everyone’s abilities, strengths, and personality.
