We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Gallego and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, what makes you happy? Why?
I love spending quality time with people, that’s what makes me happiest. Whether it be my family, significant other, friends, or someone I just met, I love hearing their stories and experiences. I am a great listener and enjoy hearing different viewpoints on all kinds of subjects, I’ll soak in all the information like a sponge! I love bringing people together and finding a common purpose.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would best describe my style of makeup as clean, natural, with a strong focus on skin. But I am also known for my Halloween makeups, which I’ve done on myself and some clients. I love that makeup in general is so endless in its creative possibilities. I can do the super clean look, but then go crazy with a rainbow of colors! And the best part? You can wipe it off and start all over again! Even today, this career is a constant hustle. You have to network and build professional relationships consistently, there is never a dull moment. Whether you are on a job or on the computer emailing contacts all day, you will be working. Applying the makeup on a client is only 10% of what you do. I overcame challenges and slow months in my career by just building up relationships that I already had. It takes hard work and persistence, talent will only take you so far. I want people to see me as Professional and always humble. You’ll never see me with an inflated ego. I understand that I am my Brand, and I reflect that professionalism and optimistic attitude in all aspects of my life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I work a lot in Miami but live in Fort Lauderdale. They are going through a building boom in Fort Lauderdale right now and with that comes new places to eat and hang out! During the day, Fort Lauderdale Beach is where it’s at. I love parking at Birch State Park, there’s a great little bar and eatery there called Park and Ocean. They have Froze (Frozen Rose Slushie!), Beers on tap, and live music almost every night. You can also rent a Kayak if you’re feeling adventurous or just take the tunnel walkway straight to the beach. The Mass District and Fat Village are the major Art Districts in Fort Lauderdale. There’s always something going on there, from their Art Walks once a month, to new Pop up shops and other fun events. My tried and true “always a good time” bar is Rhythm and Vine. It’s always a great vibe, great DJ’s without the clubby scene, and their housemade cocktails are amazing! For a very local favorite and local vibe check out Southport Raw Bar, the best oysters!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has always been my biggest support system. They are my biggest cheerleaders and encourage me to pursue my passions. My partner, Anthony, is my rock. He keeps me grounded and always has the best advice. If I ever have a crazy idea or big goal in mind, he helps me break it down in ways where it can be achievable and realistic. He also makes me laugh so much, something I love to do! Victoria Duke from my makeup school Academy of Glam, really got me unstuck from being in a comfortable, safe spot in Retail and pushed me to pursue a freelance Career in Makeup Artistry. She has so much insight and guidance.
